I just realized something. Why don't more foss projects start making their own devices that can rival smartphones? We dont need phone lines. We dont need text messages. We have hundreds of options that can do the job of both, but be much better at it. I mean shit, nostr could replace text messaging with gusto in an instant. Integration with meshtastic could give us more off grid capabilities too. All we need is an active internet connection. Which could be satisfied via a portable modem, or just making sure you have internet access which is practically everywhere nowadays. I kind of feel like this could be the start of something beautiful and meaningful. Anyone want to be on board for researching and funding a modern alternative to the smartphone?
