ultimately in life you can't have things you want. you can have money, you can have pussy - but you can't have what you really want like meaning or youth.
best you can do is to live true to yourself, and for that you simply need to ignore other people.
for me living true to myself means jerking off to porn and designing loudspeakers and building other things like computers or anything else that requires learning and intelligence.
with large amounts of drugs and alcohol i can lower myself to such a level where i begin to enjoy the company of humans, but experience has taught me that this also doesn't work in the long term.
it is true that others will never appreciate you for who you are. the common advice regarding this is to change yourself to what other people can appreciate, but that is equally as stupid as hoping people will appreciate you. what you really have to do is keep filtering your circle until you find people who appreciate you the most when you are at your most genuine and best.
and deny access to yourself to anybody else unless they pay $$$ hourly rate.
