#asknostr If you are using smaller relays, we’d love to know:
- how did you discover them?
- are they with people you know IRL, topical, local or something else
- what do you like about using a smaller relay?
- what if anything would you change or improve about using a smaller relay?

Shipped a relatively bug free Nos to the App Store. Facilitated the pivot to Communities.
The other morning I walked outside and found this bunny frozen in the entry way across the street. It was trying desperately to blend in.

Power lines randomly falling means library work day.“many disciplines are focussing too much on the past to make predictions for the future. We need more imagination for something new to emerge. And sometimes that means starting a process without knowing where you will end up.”
Our current challenges whether in business, politics or the environment are in deep need of outside the box thinking. It’s exciting to see how this architect is working in rural areas to build anew.

Thanks @Shaun for pulling together a great panel on decentralization via Nostr in NYC! Great to hear about @Wavlake ‘s efforts to rewire the music experience and @YakiHonne ‘s commitment to decentralization. @boston wine for reminding us all that Nostr is genuinely a nice place to hang out. 🎉

At a concert on Saturday the singer told a story about how some of his fans in Germany - a mom and daughter watched his live streams throughout the pandemic but didnt use venmo or Paypal. When he started touring again they showed up at 4 of his shows in Germany and presented him with a piggy bank full of 5 euro notes - 2 for every online show they watched. It was over 300 euros!
Women give $ often at much higher rates and with less strings attached. Imagine the potential in Nostr if this were a place women felt comfortable sticking around in. Noted in a week when we’ve lost yet another community building woman on Nostr.

The US may be distingrating, but at least Mexico has some hope! This is great news for Mexico and the region!

What to Know About Mexico’s First Female President
In a historic feat, the country has elected climate scientist Claudia Sheinbaum as its next leader.
Mountain laurel is in bloom!

There’s an assumption the US legal system is fair and leans towards justice and that is not true. Trump’s legal troubles are a distraction from the fact that we have 3 geriatric men of questionable competence running for president and a sitting president who thinks its fine to bring in the police for peaceful resistance to US funding of a massacre. We are in real trouble with no discernible leadership to get us out of this mess.

The desperation of tech companies to make shopping social is so bizarre. What problem is being solved here? View quoted note →

Witch hazel saplings are leafing out! Can't wait for January / February to see the blooms!

Weekend #gardening update
Built a deer (and bear 👀) fence for our raised beds.
Transplanted tomatoes and kale into the beds
Removed poison ivy from the only patch we’ve discovered
Scatter planted sunflower seeds
Transplanted columbine from a pot into the ground.
Fencing
We used beech saplings that we took down last weekend as the posts and secured them into the ground with a mix of rocks, clay and soil. Then we wrapped the sticks with heavy metal gauge fencing and zip tied the fencing to the posts. This is a test year to see if there’s enough light in that location to grow vegetables. If so we’ll put up a sturdier fence in the coming years.
Raised Beds
Opted for metal as opposed to wood. Our land is very damp and we’ve had wood in the past. Filled them first with sticks and leaves and then compost and raised bed soil on top.
Poison ivy removal
Wear gloves! Then use a bag to cover the gloved hand / arm you are pulling with. Wipe everything with poison ivy wipes afterwards. This time of year is when it is most potent. To insure you rooted it all out, try to locate the “mother”. I’m not sure I found it, but I’ll keep an eye out on new growth and where it emerges from.
Scatter planting seeds
This weekend I dropped sunflower seeds just below the surface in multiple places. it’s likely too shady for anything to grow, but we’ll see. My poppy scatter planting from six weeks ago (in clay no less!) appears to be generating results. I am seeing some sprouts!
Columbine - for flowers that grow under most conditions
Awful soil? Little water? Too much clay? These plants do not care. They will take pretty much anywhere. Presently I have some in the shade that are starting to flower - stay tuned next week. And I transplanted some volunteers from an old pot to a sunnier spot with subpar soil.

👏👏 HUGE THANKS to all the folks who helped make the initial launch a success!
@Josh Brown & @Sebastian Heit for their work on the design sprint to make the new Discover tab possible!
@Matt Lorentz , @Martin , @Daniel Cadenas for fixing bugs and improving the overall experience for Nos users
