Earlier this week, at Bitcoin block height 879,262 we sent our federal recommendations to the Prime Minister of Canada, the Leader of the Official Opposition, all other federal party leaders and party executives, all MPs, Senators, and Provincial Premiers.
In addition to calling for key federal policy measures, we hope that our federal recommendations provoke urgent dialogue at provincial and municipal levels too.
Since delivering our federal recommendations earlier this week…
✅ BTC has grown from $1.8 to $2.05 Trillion global market cap.
✅ 3 more U.S. states have introduced legislation to establish Strategic Bitcoin Reserves (SBR).
✅ NY Times & Washington Post have both published articles about the imminent U.S. Govt Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.
✅ The Govt of El Salvador has added an additional 3.0 BTC to its Strategic Bitcoin Reserve via the National Bitcoin Office. The 🇸🇻 SBR now stands at 6030.18 BTC.
✅ The Govt of Thailand has introduced a pilot project for use of BTC as currency.
✅ 4 new Bitcoin circular economies around the world have been added to the @Federation of Bitcoin Circular Economies network. More than 60 local BTC circular economies are now operating globally.
✅ Canadian publicly-traded company Good Food Corp became the latest 🇨🇦 company to announce that it is adding BTC to its treasury.

While we believe the Govt of Canada should demonstrate leadership, municipalities across Canada should not wait.
All forward-thinking municipalities across Canada should follow the lead taken by Mayor Ken Sim and Vancouver City Council to make Vancouver a more “Bitcoin friendly” city. The Federation of Canadian Municipalities should support this movement.

We are at a crossroads. Most Canadians, and our federal, provincial and municipal governments in 🇨🇦 are currently on the "debt/fiat standard". Our urgent recommendations issued to the Government of Canada this week are a call for us to move toward the "Bitcoin standard" or be left behind. While our governments may be slow or may never act, we (ie, individuals) can! Study Bitcoin and move toward the Bitcoin standard.

NEWS RELEASE: Bitcoin Coalition of Canada delivers new federal recommendations to power economic growth, social development, and environmental action
2025.01.15 -- The Bitcoin Coalition of Canada (BCC) has tabled critical new recommendations for the Government of Canada, outlined in “Leveraging the Economic, Social and Environmental Benefits of Bitcoin, Now and For Future Generations.”
The recommendations have been sent to all Members of Parliament, federal political party executives, Senators, Premiers, and MLAs/MPPs.
The BCC is urging the federal government to take several key measures to harness the wide-ranging potential of Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin mining for Canada and Canadians:
1. Implement a de minimis tax exemption for Bitcoin transactions under $10,000 CAD and commit to a more detailed study of how best to facilitate Bitcoin’s use as currency in Canada.
2. Eliminate capital gains tax on Bitcoin (BTC) held for more than one year.
3. Provide incentive support and remove regulatory red-tape to scale up Bitcoin mining in Canada.
4. Establish a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) for Canada, with the goal of securing 100,000 BTC over four years beginning in 2025.
