Good morning nostr, its a new day and i have alot to do. But i love working in weather like this, chilly but not too cold. And the main thing is the sun. I remember when i was a kid and we were reading about indians in the past, and how they "worshipped" the sun. Lots of the kids would laugh and make fun of this idea. Now as an adult i think the indians knew something we didnt. Because without the sun there is no life. Good morning nostr, its a cold 35F outside, but our little woodstove keeps us nice and toasty. Today should be a mostly routine day, and i need to start drawing out some plans for the chicken run expansion. I want to make a larger run, but i'm worried about the chickens flying out. I've tried the wing trimming thing, but i guess my chickens are part honey badger, and they fly out anyway. I want to design a large area that will have wire across the top maybe. Totally free range is not an option, too many predators here (we tried that). Anyway, i'll think of something. Good night nostr friends, its been a super busy day and i got alot done. I'm super happy with the way my pecan butter turned out, good thing i have lots more pecans. Oh, and another one of my young hens has started laying! So excited about that, now there are 2 in the young hens group. Once a few more of them start laying, i'll get rid of a couple of the older ones that have slowed down. Anyway, its been a lovely day. Pecans are one of my fav snacks, and i eat some almost daily. A friend gave us a whole box of them, so i decided to try making pecan butter, and dang this stuff is SO tasty! Only 2 ingredients, lightly roasted pecans and salt. Of course you could add anything else you want, but i like it with no added sweeteners. You can see the natural oils in it. Have you seen the price of organic almond butter lately? At my store its about $9 a pint. But i love my homemade stuff even more, will def make more😋. Oh, and i might make a few jars for Christmas gifts, we'll see. HOMEMADE PECAN BUTTER - 3 cups pecan halves - Salt to taste ( i used 1 tsp) Optional sweetener or cinnamon -Roast pecans in the oven about 5-6 mins. Throw pecans into a food processor and start mixing. The nuts will go thru several phases, and you'll need to scrape the sides several times. I added the salt near the end, and thats it. The best nut butter!
