Sometimes you know, just enough to be dangerous and that is the time that you end up getting hurt.
I discuss this in the latest video from Fabricator’s Field Guide.

Burned my thumb the other week!
I was soldering some wiring harnesses and lost focus and grabbed the stand without thinking…
My thumb found the iron instead…
Didn’t too hurt much, but it was enough to remind me how quick accidents show up when your mind drifts.
The shop only gives you what you bring to it…
Bring focus.

If the people in this video, who are talking about ancient Egyptian stone vases that were measured with very precise instruments…
were talking about jet engine parts…
(Something I am around everyday)
The measurements they describe would be the SAME…
This means to me…
That the ancient Egyptians had machines comparable to our modern day machine shops!
This absolutely blows my mind!

SHOP MINI SPLIT INSTALL THREAD:
I have received my new mini split AC for my shop and have started installing it on the wall. So far l have hung the indoor unit and cut the pass thru for the wall.
The indoor air handler is hung on a sheet metal hanger that is easy to install with two screws into the stud walls.
The pass through is a piece of PVC that the liquid lines and wiring go to the outside unit. The unit came with a flimsy plastic pipe for the pass through. However, I had some spare PVC and more importantly I already had the right size hole saw for the pipe.

Random orbit sanders are not the sexiest tools out there…
They don’t cut wood. They don’t fasten joints.
But they finish the job. Literally.
This tool doesn’t just polish your project…
it polishes your skills.

From your experience, what’s the best budget tool that outperforms expensive ones?

GM!
I think it may be Christmas in July…
Last night I placed an order for a mini split air conditioner for the shop/studio!
It has been very hot and humid where we are so I am looking forward to its arrival and install that I will do myself.
It’s Christmas! That I am paying for…
Gladly!

TOOL TIP TUESDAY:
I was a little late in my woodworking career when I finally decided to buy a wood planer…
Turned out to be one of the best equipment purchases I have ever made!
Planers are the best for turning…
Meh! Looking lumber into…
Great looking project wood.
NOTE: some of the benchtop planers like the Dewalt are really good for home shop use.

It is alive! Again…
Mid 2016, I packed up a metal mill that I converted to CNC while we moved to a new house.
It has sat in my garage waiting on my new shop to be built.
Over the weekend, the time arrived to spread out the control electronics and get it cutting again!
After 9 years, it moved without a problem… just a little rust.
I look forward to making some videos on the CNC!
