Totally random thought on a Friday evening... I was nostalgic, browsing Youtube and stumbled across a video about the 1980's character Max Headroom... I am showing my age! Anyway. I found out that the character, that was supposed to be totally computer generated... was not... at all. I know shocker! He was played by actor Matt Frewer in front of a green screen. Now, since AI is the latest shiny object. Has anyone, 40 years later, AI generated the original FAKE computer generated character? I may not be able to sleep not knowing! #asknostr #grownostr #ai image

Sometimes people you didn’t know or even know their name have profound influence on your life. I have recently learned of one such person, Russ Morash. It was through YouTube that I learned of his existence. He was the creator of “This Old House” and “The New Yankee Workshop”. Two TV shows that I didn’t miss in the 90’s. The New Yankee Workshop was the show hosted by Norm Abrams, that taught me the basics of woodworking and helped me through my early years of contracting. That show even gave me the inspiration for the sliding barn doors that are on my shop today. The shop with the doos and where the show was filmed is own by Russ Morash, as it his home. I owe a huge debt of gratitude for the skills that were taught to me by these two gentleman. Russ Morash has passed away in the last week. A man that altered my life in a profound way… To him and Norm, I say… Thank You! #grownostr #woodworking #diy

Instead of giving our kids another video game… Give them tools and show them how to use them. The future belongs to the builders and fixers! #grownostr #diy #plebchain

Yesterday, I had a situation that would have condemned many parts that were very expensive due to flaky plating. My intuition was bothering me so we tried to feel an edge to the plating. No edge was felt. Most likely it is staining on the intact plating. Saving the parts from condemnation. Many times your intuition is right about your situation. The trick is to listen, don’t let ego get in the way, and act. Somethings, I am still working on… #grownostr #coffeechain #plebchain

This kills me… Being a woodworker / creator putting a freshly cut maple tree out by the road to be picked up on big trash day… Hurts… It could be made into beautiful things! Oh well… #grownostr #diy #woodworking image

Have you painted something and the finish was not what you wanted? Did it have brush marks? When you want a great painted finish be sure to use an oil based paint. Oil based will lay down better and give you a smoother and stronger finish. Even with a brush. No need for spray equipment. So, remember when you need a great finish on furniture, woodwork, or doors, use an oil based paint! Cheers! #grownostr #diy #painting #homeimprovement

Many years ago, when I was getting started in woodworking I wanted to buy my first pneumatic nail gun. I chose a 18 gauge brad gun. It was good choice, However, it only held up to 1 1/4 inch long brads. Good choice, but limited on the length. It would show its limitations on certain projects. If I were to suggest a first pneumatic gun for the beginner now it would be a 18 gauge nailer up to 2 inch in length. This is a great all purpose nailer for the beginner as it can handle most fastening and needs a smaller compressor for air. There are a few good brands: Dewalt, Senco, Metabo. Let me know what you suggest in the comments below 👇 #grownostr #diy #woodworking #projects image
