Tis the season for spud digging! Hauled over 100 pounds out of the ground yesterday which came out of about 50 feet of row space, or about 2lbs per foot. Both the red and yellow are producing very nicely so far and I have not found many gopher tracks which bodes well for the rest of the digging. #homesteading #farming #gardening #hive #peakd #dailyblog

I really do love Gopher snakes. They are a nice and docile snake that is SUPER good to have on the farm. They take care of many of the rodents and pests and this is the largest one I have found on the farm. Shows how well it has been eating with how healthy it looks. #homesteading #snake #hive #peakd #dailyblog

Solo hike and fly yesterday and I ended up getting myself a nice assymetric collapse to a frontal collapse that didn't make my heartbeat raise at all, then found the thermal and skied out. Slight miscalculation on the landing downwind but all good in the end. The crank is out of the truck engine and I have found it is not nearly as bad as it could be. Still bearing there so I just need to find a machine shop that will turn the crank for me and get it back to polished. #paragliding #homesteading #mechanics #hiking #flying #hive #peakd #dailyblog

I FINALLY have the engine out. Now to find out just how fucked the crank is after the failed bearing. I really hope it isn't toasted and can be turned or by a miracle may not need turning just new bearings? Who knows, I'll find out soon enough. But first a hike and fly today to go try and play in thermals. #homesteading #mechanics #diy #hive #peakd #dailyblog

The spuds are looking great as they come out of the ground. Red Nordland #potatoes are one of the best! They get huge with few internal cavities, can handle regular watering, are a nice bright white inside, but they don't store the longest. They are really productive and have had few problems with pests. I have 8 rows to dig still of them and then the 4 rows of yellow. #homesteading #farming #food #hive #peakd #dailyblog

LOL, OH ENGLAND!!!! You silly bunch of babies! Too bad you are all too prim and proper to actaully stand up to the insanity. Don't worry, Big Nan's there make sure you don't have any pointy things that could hurt. Do you still have pointed scissors or are they all safety scissors now?

Yesterday we got in a 20 mile bike ride and stopped for food at the 13 mile point. We are training for a 100 mile triangle which I would love to do by the end of August. If we do 10 miles and take a short break I think we will be able to keep a pretty solid pace for much of it. Scooter is back running again so I can have it for flying, which Wednesday is looking good for Scoop hike and fly. #homesteading #cycling #farming #gardening #hive #peakd #dailyblog

The garlic garden is tilled and covered in grain which will get tilled in once dried. I got a nice haul of potatoes, 19 pounds of Red Nordland, some of which we cut up for dinner. These potatoes are not harmed by too much water and can grow some impressive sized spuds. The ydon't store too long so need to be processed or eaten sooner than the yellow potatoes that store MUCH longer. #homesteading #farming #gardening #hive #peakd #dailyblog

After the grain run in the morning yesterday I worked on the garlic garden prep then sorted out the #garlic for seed. It has to get cold stratified but there is a bit more drying needed so the bags in box will be in the sun for another day or two to help finish them. Less moisture in the peels will reduce the chances of molds. #homesteading #farming #gardening #hive #peakd #dailyblog

Got the last of the #garlic trimmed bagged and in the house yesterday. The numbers are quite good I feel with a total production of 382% ranging from 175% to 550% amongst the 13 varieties by weight. Seed gets pulled today and will dry in the hosue a bit longer before going to the cooler to stratify until October. #homesteading #farming #gardening #hive #peakd #dailyblog

Got in a great flight yesterday where I FINALLY was able to spin up in a thermal! I was the first in the air and got 600ft over launch before making a really dumb decision. Instead of staying in the thermal I tried to fly north in search of more lift on the next mountain and got myself flushed in sink. Scratched around in a thermal low but got kicked out and went to land. 2nd best flight of the 7 of us so I'm not upset. Lot's of good learning from the flight! #paragliding #flight #hive #peakd #homesteading #dailyblog

We had a great set of thunderstorms roll through yesterday afternoon and I went up on the hill to watch it pass. It didn't drop a ton of rain but enough to clean the dust off the foliage and leave the air clearer. Made for a much cooler night last night too. #homesteading #gardening #hive #peakd #dailyblog

This is a classic case of a person who is dying able to hang on long enough for the "big event" to happen. Once it's happened they are able to let go. My grandparents did the same but their events weren't live concerts streamed to the world. #RIPOzzy image

#ProofOfGarlic I'm really quite pleased with the bulk of hte garlic this year. The production has been pretty good with some really nice sized heads. I'm figuring out the varieties a bit now and am seeing the ones I will be planting much more of this year. Dialing in the quantiities I need to save of each for seed and it looks like we will have at least 10 pounds for us to eat over the winter and spring. #homesteading #farming #gardening #hive #peakd #dailyblog

We tried. We tried and failed. At least the 2 best pilots (1 PG and 1 HG) got in the rather rough and way to strong winds and got flights up into the northern Idaho panhandle. The rest of us had no desire to put ourselves into that mess. All the rocks are classified now from the sapphire mine and now will be getting washed and sorted. Made a quick vid of my process showing just how fast and easy it can be. #homesteading #paragliding #farming #diy #hive #peakd #dailyblog

How's that for some berry picking #ProofOfWork? 5.75 pounds of Thimbleberries picked between the four of us in an hour and a half. They are some of the hardest berries to pick fast and thus tend to be much more of a delicacy than most any other berry. Plus they only grow wild. The #garlic is amazing this year and I am quite anxious to get the next planted but I have to wait until October for that. #homesteading #farming #gardening #hive #peaked #dailyblog

Best #paragliding flight I've had so far. My SIV course REALLY helped my head and I got a killer one hour flight by myself on a perfect #thermal day. Got bumped around all over the place and played in, around, and through the thermals trying to learn to map them. I am SO STOKED to get my first top landing, 200 ft from launch and 300ft from my car. #freeflight #homesteading #hive #peakd #dailyblog
