Dear Yuval Harari Bitcoin—the currency of distrust, you say? Because, clearly, trusting the same institutions that brought us the subprime mortgage crisis and have been fined billions for laundering money is the epitome of financial wisdom. Those banks and governments? Totally deserving of our faith. Who wouldn’t trust an entity that can print money at will and still manage to charge us for every little service like it’s their birthright? You claim Bitcoin fans distrust human institutions. Well, duh! Why trust banks that treat our savings like chips in a casino, where the house always wins? At least with Bitcoin, my wealth isn't gambled away by someone who took a crash course in high-stakes finance and has a penchant for lavish bonuses. And really, financial systems create trust? That’s adorable. My bank trusts me so much that they require a blood sample, a retina scan, and a note from my kindergarten teacher just to reset my password. But hey, it’s all in the name of security, right? Meanwhile, Bitcoin lets me send money across the globe without needing to know the colour of my first pet. Sure, Bitcoin is like electronic gold. But unlike gold, which just sits there, Bitcoin is backed by cryptography—unlike your average bank, which is backed by...well, nothing but taxpayer bailouts and good vibes. And those “trustworthy” institutions you cherish? They’ve done a bang-up job ensuring that a small elite thrives while the rest of us are left playing financial whack-a-mole. Speaking of trust, let’s talk about inflation over the last 50 years. Remember when a cup of coffee didn't cost an arm and a leg? Thanks to our beloved institutions printing money like it's going out of style, our savings have been evaporating exponentially. They say a little inflation is good, like a bit of sunshine. But we've been getting a financial sunburn every year since they discovered the magic of monetary printing and bailouts. So, while you dream of a utopia where banks and governments suddenly become paragons of virtue, I’ll stick to my algorithms. At least they don’t embezzle, collude, or hold my money hostage on the weekends. Bitcoin may be a currency of distrust, but it’s built on the most trustworthy thing of all: mathematics Best regards, A Distrust Bitcoiner #bitcoin #trust #inflation #distrust

Does inflation lead to civilizational collapse? Well, in the 3rd century, the Roman Empire began to buckle under the weight of state spending. It frantically "printed" money until things went horribly wrong... (thread) 🧵 (Copied from Culture_Crit on X) image
