Almost everyone says "pedophiles" when they mean "predators" with the Epstein thing
People who avoid that mistake are vastly superior
🇵🇸 whoever loves Digit

Digit is Digit. I love her. I knew her online from wallstreetbets and she disappeared while going through some shit. I keep needing proof she's safe.
To anyone I've ever treated unfairly, I apologize.

(From reddit)Aaronsw would know what to do about the new decentralized social media protocol being associated with 2 people commonly viewed as Nazis.
I barely know what to do, I'm not him. We're relying on half-assed imitations like me

I hear about what a loss Aaron Swartz was all the time, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that understands fully.
I don't believe I would be stuck trying to contact Digit by growing a dead nostr for years, if Aaron Swartz was still alive
Latest revision of my list:
¶
We need more non-Nazi users, devs, and apps
¶
We need a JavaScript-free self-hostable publicly-accessible Onion service frontend. I'm pretty sure Snowden basically suggested it should be top priority. I guess it would pretty much be like njump but with posting.
¶
JavaScript-based nostr apps need a no-JavaScript fallback mode, where the page detects users with JavaScript disabled, listing njump.me and nostr.at and any other JavaScript-free viewing options, with instructions for copying and pasting in the user's URL bar.
¶
We need to fix Tor on Android and get Tor Browser and Amethyst back on F-droid. Vitor has talked about this, kinda. Speaking of Amethyst, we also need Monero and doggie coin community devs to help add Monero and doge address links to Amethyst.
¶
All nostr clients should add P2P data integrity verification over Tor ASAP - when you interact with someone's post while they're online, your clients could automatically audit your relays by talking directly to each other client-to-client over Tor to cross-reference each other's local databases.
¶
We need a decentralized GitHub alternative. A lot of work has been done on this already, but I've also gotten tired of waiting while GitHub keeps showing up everywhere, so I've proposed a nostr fork of Radicle which someone has announced they're working on developing now.View article →
¶
We need something like the old @primal "my tribe" feed to come back and be more well-known this time. A feed that shows posts from all followers could bring higher profile people to nostr. It would be a big selling point for some celebrities to be able to say to their fans "come with me to nostr because I can actually fucking hear you there and you can tell I'm not one of those sellout artists that care about Elon or Zuck's opinion more than yours"
¶
We need to figure out if there's any good way to do "marketing." Nostr is competition to the big online advertisers. They seem far too treacherous for us to do business with. I've heard the devil will sell freedom for the right price, but nobody's smart enough to ask nicely. I'm scared to guess whether that applies here. But billboards didn't work out, and apparently a lot of them ban QR codes or something? The coolest place to advertise nostr would be a completely uncensored forum on Tor or something, but would that even be safe, or would the authorities criminalize the people making the payments for those ads? I've printed out little QR code cards to give people when I want to tell them about nostr, but that might just be a waste of paper, and deforestation seems like a higher-priority problem than social media.
¶
We need nostr-based retailers who aren't Nazis or friendly with the existing "nostr cult." One of them should sell all-natural paint and pure metal laser-cut stencils, to solve the marketing issue I mentioned above. Actually, I should just get a laser cutter and a good paint recipe. Be the change you want to see.
¶
In addition to people who are willing to sell stuff the old fashioned way, we also need better apps for selling/buying stuff on nostr, if we want to attract retailers and customers that just want to do business without talking to anyone, as the internet has made many people accustomed to. Maybe we don't want that? I don't know.
¶
We need to improve NIP-13 PoW support across the board to improve spam filter accuracy. People do not like inaccurate spam filters where a lot of bot posts get through and a lot of human posts don't. (This has made good progress lately I think, maybe)
I think it also might be good to have a PoW "ticket" relay where an npub just generates sufficient PoW for 1 nevent and they're whitelisted for a certain number of additional nevents to be published from that npub within a certain timeframe, or maybe from that npub+network address combined.
¶
We need more BitTorrent integration. I think the ideal is basically: nostr for indexing and storing small chunks of text, BitTorrent for storing and transferring big data.
¶
We need a human-tag web-of-trust, where you can add a binary tag to any npub that means you've confirmed for a fact that npub is not a bot, and you can filter your feed to only show posts by your tagged humans, or those tagged human by your tagged humans, or those tagged human by those tagged human by...
Caveat: we should probably avoid having a watered down "seems human but no proof" tag, due to possible psychological impact.
¶
We need every Wikipedia topic, but in a better wiki.
¶
We need systemic key backups / key rotation, not this paradigm of waiting until compromised and then trying to deal with it entirely by hand.
¶
We need a blockchain-based DNS alternative that's actually good. I've posted a pretty good outline of a design for this, we would just need to decide collectively on formatting details and make sure to consider key rotation before finalizing an actual design. There are also so many options that already exist, it seems hard to get momentum, but I haven't found any existing specs that seem really good.View article →
¶
We need more reliable instances and backup instances of nostr services. One that I've struggled with finding reliable instances of is w3.do the nostr-native DNS URL shortener
¶
We need more nostr email integration. None of us should have to use shit like Gmail or Proton anymore, it's beyond embarrassing at this point.
¶
We need more ways to post without JavaScript, like maybe some kind of doggie coin version of the Bitcoin OP_RETURN_Bot@OP_RETURN_Bot
¶
We need a new nevent format which doesn't use JavaScript or any English-centric code (making it geographically neutral), and which is designed with P2P communication in mind, ASAP. I try to plan this out sometimes but I haven't really done much work on it yet. The default medium of communication for this P2P protocol branch should be Tor, but other mediums like 2-way radio also need to be considered in the specs. It gets complicated fast. Still better than JavaScript
¶
We need something like wavlake but with BitTorrent and maybe soulseek/Blossom integration, no centralized backend.
¶
Blossom needs BitTorrent integration. In addition to [server]/[file-hash].[extension] we need a format like [subdomain].[server]/[file-hash].[extension] that shows the file's info, including an infohash for downloading the file over BitTorrent.
¶
We need something like plebs.app that works properly and is inviting for new users, not just nostr veterans. That will also need BitTorrent integration.
¶
Aside from OP_RETURN bots etc, it would be cool to have nostr relay servers that can be directly reached in more different ways (without bots as middlemen, and OP_RETURN is just one example)
¶
We need Digit giving us stock tips. We wouldn't follow the stock tips, because we're busy holding our coins and posting on nostr, but at least we would finally have a topic to discuss other than nostr and our coins.
Spent so much time answering questions on asknostr that I have the "most winning answers" on the leaderboard, even though people hate me.
Posted links to asknostr.site on other platforms multiple times, telling people they can ask anything, it shows up across multiple apps, can't be banned, etc.
No sign anyone has joined from me linking it. Even one single time.
I think it was @ภ๏รtг๏ภคยt that even did nostr billboards in the past, paid for them, got basically nothing out of it.
Nostr has approximately a 0% success rate with users following through after learning about it. Advertising it just burns up time and money without first fixing the problems that make people not want to use it. #grownostr

If I'm the one that makes the "new separate nostr with a new name" I'll have a trick up my sleeve: easy compatibility with nostr under the hood, to reconnect seamlessly later (no Gleason style "bridges")
This is because:
* echo chambers suck
* nostr's right wing reputation would set a precedent of left wing people being more echo-chambery if I let left wing idiots build a "separate nostr"
* as a communist, I cannot have leftism looking echo-chambery

When pubky showed up, I asked why it's not just using nostr and the answer was they had "better technology."
They offered no explanation for this, and then showed a piece of crap prototype that did nothing, while nostr already had a robust network serving me as a user every day.
When time I ask why a new network isn't using nostr, the answer I'm looking for is simple:
Because a lot of people can't handle spending time around people like fiatjaf and jack dorsey, and nostr apps can't get past that user adoption barrier.
If you tell me it's about "better technology," be fucking quick to back it up, because that sounds like bullshit. You could just use nostr keys in your "better technology."
The reason not to use nostr keys is to go out of your way to not be nostr. Maybe if someone has the right reason for that, and is honest about it, their nostr-like thing will take off and surpass Bluesky.
I have an increasingly bad feeling about supporting @fiatjaf by supporting nostr
The defense: he's not American, it's not his tax dollars bombing Gaza or shooting Renee Good, he's just neutral / not connected.
The problem: anyone that posts on English-speaking social media should really be saying more by now.
It seems like time to start considering how to split nostr away from fiatjaf and his cluster, while still respecting his contributions.
People will probably never accept nostr unless fiatjaf fundamentally changes, or there's a new, separate network based on nostr but with a new name
Nostr would have taken off by now if I threw my life away promoting it. I guess trying to stay safe and grow nostr at the same time makes it trickier.
