I know it’s silly, but my most common use of an LLM is avoiding remembering what’s in man pages. Being able to use human language to describe what i want my CLI tools to do just works so much better for me.

Apparently @jack was invited to give a talk at FOSDEM and lots of people got upset about it. I have no idea if the talk will happen, but I do wonder if these guys protesting understand that the vast majority of open source projects are sponsored and funded by corporations. To not include and understand the motivations of those companies and how they use and support open source feels like willful ignorance. The first freedom of free software is that you can run the code for any purpose, including as a business making money it capitalism.

If people think Nostr is a crypto or blockchain protocol they think it’s some scam. That’s the reality of how all crypto is viewed by the average normie. Nostr is not a blockchain project. It’s got some nice integration with lightning, but it’s not a bitcoin project either. It’s an open super flexible permissionless protocol that lets us rebuild everything of Web 2.0 but in a way that puts users in control and allows for real privacy through end to end encryption. Let’s sell Nostr based on all the amazing things is can do. View quoted note →

You know, the cloud hosted official deepseek was pretty fast up until their R1 model caused the tech stock market to crash and made international news… Thankfully tomorrow my new 64gb ram / 20 gpu M4pro mac mini arrives so i’ll be able to just run it locally.

This new stuff people are doing with Open AI’s Canvas and Operator feels like a major shift of how we build software. Look at these videos: And then there’s Deepseek’s new R1 model which is open source, can run on a decent desktop computer, and is better than anything openAI has done with regards to coding… almost as good as claude sonnet… I put $10 in to deepseek and have been using it a lot, only to have spent a few cents! This stuff is improving so fast, and the cost is dropping so much… it’s hard to keep up. Look at this, you can run your own RAG at o1 levels using deepseek r1! I think we’re seeing Open Source win against big proprietary tech platforms, and it really makes me feel better about the AI future. One question here, is why aren’t we talking more about what we can do with it on Nostr? I know folks are excited about bitcoin, which is cool, but look at what we can start doing with the AI… Who’s talking about it on Nostr? How do we use AI and these. emerging open models in building / using nostr… i know we’ve got DVM’s but that’s kind of a limited job request system.

This proposed bill in Mississippi would make being an undocumented immigrant a life sentence in prison without possibility of parole. Because Mississippi practices unpaid prison labor, it’s the only kind of slavery still allowed under the US constitution, the law would enslave undocumented immigrants for life. It has no chance of passing, for now. But this shows that some politicians are trying to reinstate slavery. https://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/documents/2025/html/HB/1400-1499/HB1484IN.htm

One interesting thing I've noticed now that we've adopted being able to put any of your lists as a feed in @nos is that it really uncenters the main ContactList.. In some ways it's really amazing, we get a google plus circles like experience. Do i want to see posts by nostr devs, tap that list, if i want my nos team, i can look at that, or the nos recommended users, or people i follow on bluesky or mastodon... I can put all the overly enthusiastic posters on a list... But a lot of Nostr apps are built around the idea that ContactList is your primary way of calculating the social graph. Especially Nos, we particularly use it for things like mutes, content warnings, etc... By making my lists way more open, a web, then Nostr works really differently. What's more, what would happen when it'd be easy to use somebody else's lists the same way?

Nostr is a great technology but when people post stuff that isn’t related to bitcoin or nostr itself they struggle to get traction and build an audience. Other platforms have algorithms or tools to cultivate multiple communities of users and interest. We’re a bit stuck with just one at the moment. Solving this is essential for Nostr’s future.
