Doubling down on doing what you love is such an incredible way of tuning out and/or coping with the external stressors in the world.
Maybe gold and silver dumped because insiders cashed out once the metals got listed on Binance.
Once you come to a certain understanding of Bitcoin, it’s virtually impossible to date someone who doesn’t get it. Listening to the person across from you propose solutions to political and economic problems that you know will barely make a dent in our current issues (e.g., “It only we could tax CEOs more!) while biting your tongue and not launching into a treatise on economics and explaining how Bitcoin is the answer is not just difficult but physically painful at this point. I’m at a loss.
I’ve been thinking a lot about terms like “collectivism” and “rugged individualism” - especially as a resident of New York City, which many claim to be the center of capitalism (it isn’t; it’s the center of crony capitalism at best) and which now has a socialist mayor. My thinking led me to writing this:
🚨NEW: New evidence shows that the SDNY/DOJ has likely sold the bitcoin that the Samourai devs paid it as part of their plea deal even though Executive Order 14233 mandates that forfeited bitcoin be held in the U.S.’s Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. And this wasn’t the first time in the Samourai case that the SDNY acted in defiance of federal orders or guidance. Theres is a pattern of defiance here.
One of the things I love most about being in the Bitcoin space is how the diversity here is genuine, not manufactured. We’re just a group of people from around the world coming together to provide support to one another as we work to better our own lives and the lives of those around us via this technology and technologies like it (e.g., Nostr). It’s quite beautiful.
A moment of calm before we run it back for day two of Bitcoin MENA. We’re getting started at 9:00 AM GST. Be sure to tune in! ⚡️ (Link to livestream in comments.) image
Just want to take a moment to celebrate this guy, @tpacchia, co-founder of @PUBKEY, the embodiment of the “you can just do things” mantra, and an all-around incredible and good-hearted human being. All the best with PubKey DC, my friend. You and the team will crush it, no doubt. image
Samourai developer Keonne Rodriguez’s sentence includes 60 months in prison, three years of supervision, and a $250k fine. Here’s an overview of what else was said in the courtroom today.
Let us please stop referring to New York City as a hub for capitalism. It isn’t. Instead, it’s a center for crony capitalism, a form of socialism for the rich. It’s also a jurisdiction laden with red tape and high taxes that’s largely unaffordable for the poor, middle and working classes. It’s also home to Wall Street, which has been bailed out time and time again at the expense of the U.S. taxpayer and the value of the U.S. dollar itself. What is more, NYC is subject to the BitLicense, which makes it hard for Bitcoin companies to serve New Yorkers, creating more friction for those who want to break free from the crony capitalistic system via Bitcoin. If more people held and understood Bitcoin, they wouldn’t have voted for Zohran Mamdani. But the traditional financial system doesn’t want people to understand it, because it would make that system irrelevant. So, in essence, I blame Wall Street and the other benefactors of the Cantillon Effect (look it up) as well as the bureaucratic hellhole that is NYC (and New York State more broadly) for Mamdani being elected mayor. Until we confront on a larger level how Wall Street/bank bailouts, infinite money printing, and red tape hurts the most financially vulnerable among us and acknowledge that Bitcoin is an answer to this, expect many more Mamdani types to be elected.
It's with a heavy heart that I share I will be moving on from my position at Bitcoin Magazine as of next Friday, 10/31. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities that working at BM has afforded me. It's been an absolute honor and a privilege to be a part such an special team.
Super excited to share that I’ll be speaking at Bitcoin Medellín in January! Hope to see some of you there! image
Looking to have someone familiar with what happened in Nepal this week on my show (via Bitcoin Mag’s YouTube channel). Please share leads and/or ideas in the comments.
