What a great update for the BTech radio. Just the UI changes alone make it so much easier to use and read (especially out in bright sunlight). What a difference a font change makes. Now to figure out all the radio changes and to turn off the Rodger beep so others don't complain 🤣 #hamradio #amateurradio #btech #uvpro #aprs

Celery, piri piri, reaper, cauliflower, carrots, onions, chamomile, kung pow, and a few others are germinating. Many more to come. 2025 looks to be a good year.

Anybody using a phone running #GraphineOS? I am looking to setup sandboxed google play with a "burner" google account, but trying to figure out how to get an SMS without going to my phone number. I have used some free online SMS services, but google seems a bit wise to it or the SMS services dont work.

I have switched to Linux on my laptop. But, I still am stuck with Windows for the next 6 months on my main workstation. But finally, Microsoft has added sudo to DOS command line. About friggin time!!! image

Working on a dog pen for Kenzie for the deck area under our house so she can hang out with us this summer. I love a handheld circular saw but this portable battery powered miter saw I got for Christmas rocks. How did I live without one? This fence is way over engineered and should survive a hurricane. I had to stop because I ran out of deck screws. My wife is going to roll her eyes when I declare out loud in Ace Hardware that I am heading to the screw aisle, while snickering.

My hot peppers have a way to go before we are harvesting again, and I hope we harvest soon. The hot sauce we made and canned last year is getting low 🤣. 100% Hatteras made! image

Tried our new ghost pepper (Bhut Jolkia) cheese (Queso Fesco) on a Mediterranean style salad Kate made. Mediterranean salad, Mexican style cheese with hot peppers originally from India, and made in our North Carolina kitchen. Truly a fusion effort. The cheese with the underlying spice of the Bhut Jolkia peppers with the creaminess of a fresh cheese went great. image #homesteading #cheesemaking #cheese #cooking #hotpepper #bhutjolkia #ghostpepper

Made cheese yesterday. Been a while since we made cheese. Been since we lived in California. Made Queso Fresco with ghost pepper. I know, adding spicy can hide mistakes. But I love it hot. This cheese doesn't require aging. So it is needless to say that I can't wait to "cut the cheese" 🤣 Anyone have a source of cow's, goat's, sheep's milk in Eastern North Carolina? Closer to the Outer Banks the better. #homesteading #cheese #cheesemaking #cooking

Just got some stickers from @arcanecarolinas and attached one to my laptop. Arcane Carolinas is a podcast (and books) about legends and lore of the Carolinas. They have even talked about a few from here on Hatteras Island. I am trying to convince them to make it down to the end of the earth, on Hatteras Island, to do a book signing 🙂 If you havent checked them out, take a gander at their podcast. It is very interesting. Thanks guys of Arcane Carolinas for the stickers! #lore #mysteries #northcarolina #hatterasisland #capehatteras #obx #outerbanks #southcarolina image

It is amazing that any rain got captured in the rain gauge with the wind blowing so hard yesterday, where it was going sideways. I show 0.72" that made it in. Crazy winds out of the south. Now they are more NW and colder this morning. Below are the rain amounts over the last week (coming out to a total of 2.98"): 02/09/25: 0.14" 02/10/25: 0.40" 02/11/25: 0.16" 02/12/25: 0.35" 02/13/25: 0.06" 02/14/25: 1.07" 02/16/25: 0.08" 02/17/25: 0.72" image #obx #outerbanks #hatterasisland #weather

Well, yesterday was certainly the grand finale of rain. I take a reading every morning at 7:30am of the National Weather Service rain gauge that we maintain on our property. It shows that we have had a total of 2.04" of rain over the last 5 days with over half of it happening yesterday. Now time for some sun to dry off. #obx #outerbanks #weather

Awesome!!! I just started my seeds Sunday and I already have arugula popping. I started with herbs (things that can start inside or in hydroponics). I will be starting hot peppers and other vegetables soon. So far, great sign!!! Got high hopes for 2025 as being a great year!!! #gardening #growing #food

So, I replaced my soft top with a hard top. when I picked up my jeep, the sun visors were broken and the dealer said they couldn't be repaired and needed to be replaced. These visors cost around $400 for the pair since there is power in them for lighted mirrors and garage door opener. After a quick internet search and a $10 purchase on Amazon, I bought retention clips and repaired both visors in less than 20 minutes on my own. Good service is a thing of the past. you can see the first pic where the visor is just dangling. The metal retention clips were easily added and fixed the problem even better than it was before the guys putting on my roof mangled things.
