The malware, such as Atomic macOS Stealer and Odyssey, silently replaces the legitimate app with a malicious version that mimics its appearance and prompts users to enter their recovery phrase under false pretenses, like "suspicious activity" or "critical error" alerts. These attacks, active since at least August 2024, originate from over 2,800 hacked websites and have evolved to directly harvest recovery phrases, with additional scams via compromised Discord accounts, Reddit phishing, and fake physical mail.
