What 20 year old has zero digital footprint?

I rarely use Twitter, so I’m hooping someone who does can answer this: why do so many people self-censor words using an ‘*’ to replace a single letter? Ex: nearly everyone discussing the Trump shooting is using “assass*nation” and “sn*per” instead of the actual words. Does this have something to do with having your account suspended? Is it a monetization thing? It’s been done for years with curse/taboo words, but censoring regular terms is bizarre. #asknostr

For a long time this was my PFP on Lyft. Without fail, every driver would say, “Oh! I thought I was picking up Dr. Phil,” when I got in the car. I always found this odd. Like Dr. Phil is just chilling at random houses nowhere near wherever his show’s studio is and going to dive bars.
