Does anyone know if there's a NIP for read receipts for notifications. When I open each of my clients I have to dismiss each notification individually. I feel like we could create read receipts by encrypting the event with the public key and sending it to a private relay used for drafts and other bits.
@@set:// 𓁣 🏴 probably I feel like you might know this.

Thoughts on Australia including GitHub in the list of platforms to treat like social media (requiring regulation, age restrictions and ID).
Can you imagine “Hello emergency services, my child has a merge conflict” xD
Who is getting groomed on GitHub? Who is getting addicted to GitHub 🤣🤣
Banning GitHub is like banning a library.
It’s complicated by the fact that although GitHub was acquired by Microsoft in 2018, it kept its CEO and remained mostly separate with the exception of a few CoPilot tools. With GitHub’s CEO resigning and everything moving towards Microsoft and digital ID, I worry about the centralisation of open source software. Most of the code we know would cease to exist if GitHub suddenly went down. Unless you went and tracked down every person with a local copy on their machine (basically the dev team). It’s a scary reality and we need to fight it!!
So given the current state of the UK, I’m looking at moving. If this digital ID goes through then there’s no doubt I will be gone.
The easiest places to go to are places that offer a working holiday visa. This allows me to stay there for 2 years and then you can simply extend it.
Australia is a great candidate but unfortunately they’re quite right-wing, full of facial recognition and state surveillance and they’re even trying to require ID to use GitHub now. I know!! GitHub 🤯
Canada is my next best choice but they still require biometrics (including all ten fingerprints) for foreigners staying longer than six months. The place is gorgeous though and there’s plenty of outdoors for me to explore, rock climb and kayak through.
Any suggestions??
There’s quite a few of these alternative social media platforms being advertised on mainstream social media, ironically. This one reminded me of Nostr a little.
It’s clear that the public wants to break free from social media and move onto something without an algorithm that’s not feeding you propaganda constantly. It’s interesting to see how they’re pushing the “verifiable” claims though, whatever that means.
I’m not in the slightest part interested in their platform but I think it serves as an important reminder that Nostr could work for the general public and they ARE interested, we just need to streamline the user experience a little to remove the barrier to entry and then shout about it.
Here's a video my friend Nic made. Please listen!

Here's a great PDF by Big Brother Watch. Everybody in the UK should read this. Well cited, factual information that covers everything you could want to know about the dangers of digital ID and what you can do about it. I for one will be saying no to digital ID!! This must end now

Nostr users earn more than Spotify artists! The average Nostr post earns 128 times more than the average Spotify stream!!!!
At the time of writing the average Zap amount over the last six months (without excluding anomalies) is ~462. This number comes from the total of sats from zaps (2,541,481,971) divided by the amount of zaps (5,498,398).
Spotify pays between 0.003 and 0.005 USD per stream. Taking the average of 0.004 USD per stream and 1 sat equating to 0.0011 USD at the time of writing we can multiply 462 by 0.0011 to get approximately 51 cents, which is 128 times how much you'd get per stream on Spotify!!

Quite frankly I've found some figures that suit my agenda and thus I think my statistic is just as accurate as any you'll see in the news or from government.
Although this is based on real figures, they are raw averages and this is a very very simple calculation. This is by no means a very accurate representation of what the average Nostr user would actually receive per post. The method doesn't consider anomalies which will spike averages, bot accounts or anything else. It's merely an amusing statistic that I backs up the very probable truth that you'd earn more as an artist on Nostr than you would on Spotify.
This is so incredibly insightful and provides a great way to embrace the chaos around us. Definitely worth a watch.
I'd love to work out the entropy of something like thisanfd work out how secure it is. I suppose if it's generating a melody instead of just random notes then that lowers the entropy so it would have to be higher. I just really love the idea of unlocking my computer with a midi keyboard. You could definitely do this with PAM authentication in Linux and probably MacOS too. Or if you found a way to encode text using music notes then you could create a password manager that takes your existing passwords and converts them accordingly to after you press the midi keys. So many ideas 😆

Last night I went to a local music gig that a friend invited me to. I didn't expect too much as it was a showcase from a small record label and most of these guys had never performed to a real audience before.
TLDR: there was such a variety and all of them were EXCEPTIONAL. It was so refreshing to see such talent in our local community and I feel lucky to have seen these guys before they get famous!
The first act stood up on stage, nervously holding her phone. Naturally I thought she was going to read the lyrics from her phone and my expectations were low; but that's not to say I wasn't interested. She begins talking and the music suddenly starts unexpectantly so she's forced to start the show.
JUST WOW!!! Her voice was angelic. Influenced from Amy Winehouse, Dijon and Adele, this girl is going far!! I believe her name is Adaọra, check out her debut EP "ID".
Adaọra was no exception though, the rest of the acts were also remarkable. A particularly notable voice was Jack Nash; a perfect blend of Thom Yorke and Kurt Cobain. Best yet he was selling cassette tapes instead of CDs!!
Teo Long is most certainly an honorable mention as well. They're a three part Jazz Funk band. Although I could only find one song released, it can't go unmentioned that the lead singer wrote a song about how his Italian Grandmother with dementia keeps stealing cars and going for joy rides, I can't quite remember the name of it but it is hilarious in addition to being very groovy. Their bassist, Buck, is on a WHOLEEEE other level too so definitely watch them live if you're lucky enough to get the chance.
Amazing job guys! I'm not sure my praise will do you as well on Nostr as it would on the mainstream platforms but you never know. Great job :D

I've setup a custom lightning network address and a Nostr verified address. It was so incredibly simple to do with Docker and took less than 2 minutes from start to finish. It's much prettier now!
If anyone wants a hand let me know :)
Absolutely loving Nostr! What a great protocol. I do find it slightly slow though as my client has to do a lot of work. Does anybody know of any self-hostable intermediaries which handle all connections with Nostr relays and send a much lighter digest to the client?
