P.T. Bauer’s Reminders on Foreign Aid https://mises.org/mises-wire/pt-bauers-reminders-foreign-aid By Joshua Mawhorter > The late P.T. Bauer provided much insight into the issue of the so-called First World sending aid to Third World nations in the name of “development.” Bauer demonstrated conclusively that such donations actually impede economic growth in poor nations. originally posted at

The Kashmir Powder Keg | The Libertarian Institute Joseph Solis-Mullen delves into the geopolitical fallout of a recent terror attack in India's restive Jammu and Kashmir region, which New Delhi has pinned on Pakistan. “On April 22, 2025, militants opened fire near the Pahalgam area of Indian-administered Kashmir, killing twenty-six people – mostly Indian tourists. It was the deadliest attack on civilians in the region in over two decades. Within hours, New Delhi accused Pakistan of harboring the perpetrators, claiming they were linked to Pakistan-based groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba operating under the umbrella of a shadowy group called the 'Kashmir Resistance.' Pakistan swiftly denied any involvement. But denials did little to stop the spiraling fallout.” > (UPDATE: On Tuesday, India launched retaliatory airstrikes on Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Islamabad claimed dozens of civilians were killed as a result and shelled Indian territory in response. The violent flare-up mirrors border skirmishes over Kashmir in 2019, after another terrorist attack which India blamed on its neighbor and responded to with air raids.  –Will Porter) originally posted at

US Trade Account Balance and the Imposition of Tariffs https://mises.org/mises-wire/us-trade-account-balance-and-imposition-tariffs By Frank Shostak > Although politicians, pundits, and the media claim that a trade deficit is harmful to a country, the reality is much different. In a free economy, individuals interact with each other in mutually beneficial exchanges. As Murray Rothbard noted, free exchanges do not produce winners and losers. Mises: > While an individual’s balance of payments conveys exhaustive information about his social position, a group’s balance discloses much less. It says nothing about the mutual relations between the members of the group. The greater the group is and the less homogeneous its members are, the more defective is the information vouchsafed by the balance of payments. originally posted at

Tariffs Did Not Make America Great and Won’t Make America Great Again https://mises.org/mises-wire/tariffs-did-not-make-america-great-and-wont-make-america-great-again By Joshua Mawhorter > Trump has even dubbed himself “a Tariff Man.” This is nothing new, however, his frequent claims regarding the US economy during the Gilded Age need scrutiny. ![](https://m.stacker.news/90185) ![](https://m.stacker.news/90186) originally posted at

On Free Speech, Trump's as Bad as Biden | The Libertarian Institute Jack Hunter highlights the Trump administration's total disregard for the US Constitution. “The Trump administration framing the suppression of free speech as a matter of non-citizens’ rights vs. those of citizens is a cheap way of ignoring the First Amendment, no different than the Biden administration holding up the supposed threats of “misinformation” and “disinformation” in the name of doing the same. Republicans and Democrats have created spectres supposedly so threatening to convince enough people that the First Amendment no longer applies. Bullshit.” originally posted at
