Purchasing Power and the International Demand for Dollars https://mises.org/mises-wire/purchasing-power-and-international-demand-dollars By Frank Shostak > What determines currency exchange rates? While “experts” present a number of theories such as trade balance, the most important factor is the purchasing power of the currencies in question. originally posted at

Stacker News Foundry: Narrative Building This clip from SNL is referencing @stack_harder's [post](https://stacker.news/items/885982/r/Undisciplined) about why there isn't more promotion of SN by well-known bitcoiners, like there is for nostr. It's a variant of a question we've all asked and tried to answer many times: "Why aren't more people here?" ## Incentive Misalignment In the discussions in the comments of the post and in the clip, it seems there may be more going on than just SN being young and undiscovered. We may be working against some motivated behavior that's incentivized by funding or financial opportunities in the nostr ecosystem. What hadn't occurred to me is that a highly functional and intelligent forum, like Stacker News, might be antithetical to influencers selling a brand of their own brilliance. Compared to the collective wisdom and knowledge of stackers, no one person can maintain such an exalted perch. I had previously imagined a growth trajectory for Stacker News that included being discovered by some of these known personalities and going through waves of new users as they sell their followers on the merits of SN. What if that sort of passive growth is not in the cards, because the incentives are not aligned? ## Narrative Correction In the clip, they primarily discuss the need to make up the difference in narrative building. Nostr, despite being a generally worse experience than SN, has had much better PR. Many of the big names in bitcoin have been shilling it to their followers, while Stacker News basically relies on word of mouth. By the way, I understand that Stacker News and nostr are not actually competitors, or even the same kind of thing. I'm talking about the most common usage of nostr, which is still as a twitter-like substance. I'm raising this in the Foundry, because we have skin in the game and shouldn't just be waiting for @k00b to solve this problem for us. For the sake of this community that we are all so fond of, we need to figure out how to do the leg work of changing SN's perception and at least improve awareness of what we're all about. That said, all I'm doing is raising the issue. I have no solutions in mind, other than the obvious "share more Stacker News content on nostr" and "tell cool people about Stacker News." ----------- cc: @grayruby, @realBitcoinDog, @IamSINGLE, @siggy47, @Public_N_M_E, @TNStacker, @south_korea_ln, @BlokchainB, @k00b, @mega_dreamer, @Aardvark, @benwehrman, @OneOneSeven, @AGORA, @roytheholographicuniverse, @anna, @antic, @Bell_curve, @niftynei, @elvismercury, @PlebLab, @UCantDoThatDotNet, @ek, @davidw, @Design_r, @bitcoinplebdev, @RDClark, @inverselarp, @theschoolofbitcoin, @Jon_Hodl, @frostdragon, @Bitter, @nout, @MaxAWebster, @HODLR, @softsimon, @ch0k1, @AtlantisPleb God damn, there are a lot of territories and owners. originally posted at

Initial Jobless Claims Still Low, But Continuing Jobless Claims Remain High Just wait for tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of resigning feds to hit the market. Today's their last day to opt in to the deferred resignation offer. originally posted at
Trending News from Global Sports Central If the NFL officials really want to get the call right on every play, maybe they should try looking at the Chiefs right tackle, who false starts on every snap and holds on most of them. Somehow, the rest of us manage to see him. originally posted at
NFC North • Clip by @undisciplined • Listen on Fountain After going 0-3 in the playoffs (and the Bears completely fizzling out), were we too high on the NFC North? Should we expect that to be the best division again next year? There's a good chance the Lions and Vikings regress a bit, the Packers were terrible against good teams, and the Bears might play down to their standard. I could see any of the AFC West, NFC West, or AFC North being better than the NFC North. originally posted at
