Exploring Nairobi we Bitcoin for Fairness met the Tando team who released a fantastic app! 30 Mio. ppl in Kenya can now be paid with #Lightning and receive KES in their M-Pesa account. Basically you can pay everything with #bitcoin and the recipient doesn't need to learn anything about it. It is so important in countries where people live from paycheck to paycheck, they need to be able to spend their bitcoin. I confirm it works like a charm, paid taxi drivers for groceries, eating dinner in a restaurant etc. image

These are the outskirts of an urban center. Which one? Hint: I was surprised to see so much green. image

Gonna visit Zambia in a couple of months…great to see the initiative growing. Livingstone at Victoria Falls and on the border to Zimbabwe is a tourist hot spot and as such a great location for Bitcoin acceptance and knowledge spreading. Been there four years ago. Coming back. View quoted note →

Self-custody your Bitcoin. Tell your friends and family to do the same. If they don’t understand tell them the story of Ibrahim Abdallah in Lebanon. “This war between the United States and Iran is affecting us internally,” he said. “All I know is that we are innocent victims of a war that we’re not part of. To be honest, I see a dark future.” “Even if I wanted to rebuild (his bombed house) it, my money is stuck in the bank. I want to be able to rebuild our future. But the banks have taken all our money.”

Research, knowledge, patience, long-term strategy and out of the box thinking are always being rewarded. Thanks to Satoshi and all the Cypherpunks who built the fundaments for this ground breaking technology, which can be used as a tool against power abuse and for personal freedom. image

From 2025 on visitors to Kenya must declare the IMEI of their phone at entry!! With this obligatory declaration Kenyan authorities can track everyone in realtime. The IMEI is the unique identifier of your device, you can not change it. As soon as you use a SIM card / or eSim - these have their own unique IDs as well, which then are associated with your IMEI. This is a global standard. image

I will never use or recommend a Bitcoin or Lightning wallet that requires my phone number. Sadly Blink one of the most commonly used wallets in underdeveloped countries with the most vulnerable people bc of autharitarians ruling is doing this.
