Bird Migration Explorer ![](https://m.stacker.news/119704) > Data visualization is another of those vices I got adicted to. I remembered [these](https://stacker.news/items/1236869/r/deSign_r) other [posts](https://stacker.news/items/941548/r/deSign_r) and for some reason I thought it was the same tool. Turn out are not, Audubon Explorer only provide migrations happening between the Americas and nearby continents. Really captivating to think about the hard work these animals do, especially if we compare with those city animals that struggle to getup and grab something to eat from the fridge. The Bird Migration Explorer captures the joy of birds and the wonder of migration through a series of interactive maps built using the latest and best-available migration and conservation science. Using this unique digital platform, visitors to the Bird Migration Explorer can learn about the full annual cycle for 458 species of migratory birds that regularly breed in the United States and Canada and use areas in Latin America and the Caribbean during other times of the year. You can take a closer look at your favorite bird as it completes its annual migration using the Species Migration maps, discover which migratory birds use a given location and how they connect it to other places across the Western Hemisphere on the Locations maps, and learn about many of the challenges migratory birds face during the year with the Conservation Challenges maps. Migratory birds inspire and fascinate countless people all across the hemisphere with their awe-inspiring annual journeys. By learning more about what migratory birds tell us, we can better protect them and the places they need throughout the year. The Bird Migration Explorer takes one of the world’s natural phenomena and displays it right on your screen for hundreds of migratory bird species. The Bird Migration Explorer was made possible through the generous contributions of tracking data submitted by hundreds of researchers across many organizations and working throughout the Western Hemisphere. Collecting these data requires a huge investment in time, energy, and funding. We greatly appreciate scientists’ willingness to share these hard-earned data that bring the incredible journeys of migratory birds to life.

Cosmic UI framework ![Ready-to-use Sci-Fi UI components - A curated set of futuristic UI components — reusable, customizable, and framework-friendly.](https://m.stacker.news/119703) Cosmic UI is a set of beautifully-designed sci-fi components with customizable SVG shapes. Built for modern frameworks with accessible interactive logic. Open Source. Fully Customizable. Cosmic UI is a set of beautifully-crafted, customizable UI components with a sci-fi aesthetic. Built to empower you to create interfaces with futuristic designs using SVG shapes as the foundation, while leveraging zag.js for interactive components. This is not a traditional component library. It is a system to build your own sci-fi component library. You know how most component libraries work: you install a package, import the components, and use them as they are. But when you want a UI with a distinctive sci-fi style – sharp edges, frames, holographic panels – you often end up writing complex custom SVG or CSS code from scratch. This is what Cosmic UI aims to solve. It is built around the following principles: - SVG First: Components use customizable SVG shapes to achieve a truly sci-fi look. - Selective zag.js Integration: Interactive components are powered by zag.js for accessibility and state management. - Full Control: You own and customize every component’s markup, SVG paths, and styles. - Beautiful Sci-Fi Defaults: Carefully designed shapes, frames, and layouts that work out-of-the-box for sci-fi themed apps, dashboards, and games.

Flag Stories ![](https://m.stacker.news/119586) # Yes, we like flags. We like them a lot. Actually, we are so fascinated by flags that we decided to explore them in every possible way in order to share our fascination with you. ![](https://m.stacker.news/119587) ### Why? Sure, there are a lot of books and websites covering the different aspects of flags like history, demography and culture, through heavy text, but we wanted to add new aspects to this field by only looking at the graphics and telling the story visually. So we started this Flag Stories project to discover the hidden stories behind the graphics. ### How? Basically we started looking at all the flags in the world and squeezed all the data we could possibly gather in to a blank spreadsheet. The more we dug into it, the more stories we managed to reveal, so our plan is to keep digging and continuously adding new stories to the project. Wikipedia has been our most used source for information, but you will find the specific source list for each visual at the bottom of the page. We have included flags of the UN member states. ### Who? We are ferdio - an infographic agency in Copenhagen transforming data and information into captivating visuals. So this project is pretty representative of our client based projects: adding value to data and information by telling visual stories that inform and inspire. ![](https://m.stacker.news/119602) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119590) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119591) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119592) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119593) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119594) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119595) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119596) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119597) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119598) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119599) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119600)

Archive Matrix: Steven Heller’s Font of the Month ![](https://m.stacker.news/119581) You’d think that by 2025 I would be sick of anything addressing the “future” by now. Having lived through the 60s through 90s visionary predictions of a pessimistic future – and having been a Philip K. Dick fan until well into the 2000s – I’ve had more than enough dystopian predictions come true. I look at the future as a fearsome spectre, which should mean that any symbolic references must cause me to feel the sting of future shock. Nevertheless, I continue to be fascinated with futuristic art and design. ![](https://m.stacker.news/119582) Dot-matrix letterforms tend to have a nostalgic air dating back to the 80s and the initial digital typographic era. They may also seem quaint – if not passe – by standards of today. However, van Rosmalen’s mathematically precise design, notably in the Cyrillic version, brings the future-past into the future-present. The structure of Archive Matrix in larger sizes is decidedly modern; in smaller weights it feels like letters on a primordial computer screen. Either way, it works well. It may seem, at first glance, that there are limited applications for Archive Matrix, but that ignores its uncanny potential for adding movement to a text. Open Source Anxiety Toolkit ![](https://m.stacker.news/119578) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119577) Free tools to help when you're feeling anxious. These exercises are simple to follow and don't require any special equipment - use them whenever your mind feels too busy or when you need a moment of calm. **What Happens During Anxiety** Your body activates the "fight-or-flight" response, increasing heart rate, speeding up breathing, and releasing stress hormones like adrenaline. This often triggers unnecessarily during everyday situations, leaving you feeling on edge. **How These Techniques Help** These evidence-based techniques activate your parasympathetic nervous system, which naturally counteracts the stress response. Regular practice can reduce both the frequency and intensity of anxious feelings. **Tips for Best Results** Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be interrupted Start with shorter techniques (2-5 minutes) if you're feeling very anxious Practice regularly, even when you're not anxious, to build your skills Be patient with yourself - these techniques get easier with practice [Android](https://r2.anxietyaidtools.com/AnxietyAidTools_latest.apk) and [iOS](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/anxiety-aid-tools/id6754823388) app avaliable Contribute ![](https://m.stacker.news/119580)

Conspiratorial Design. Information design for the bigger picture ![](https://m.stacker.news/119442) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119443) Bringing two concepts we usually regard as antithetical, visual designer Carlo Bramanti examines how design and conspiracy theory intersect in their practices and output. Design is generally perceived as a discipline that makes the complex intelligible; it illustrates reliable facts and streamlines information. Conspiracy theories, on the other hand, stretch facts to their most grotesque limits; they create chaos and confusion. And yet, for Bramanti, both attempt to address the same human aspiration for meaning and order. Design (in particular information design) and conspiracy theory, he says, share a tendency to think in terms of large-scale systems. They both look for strong and seductive narratives that will reveal “the bigger picture”. Designers process vast amounts of information and synthesise them in an engaging way. To do so, they look for patterns and new connections, which makes them vulnerable to conspiracy. But while design strives to “raise awareness”, conspiracy theory talks about “awakening”. Bramanti finds the connections between design and conspiracy theory so compelling that he coined a term for the common ground that they share: Conspiratorial Design. ![](https://m.stacker.news/119444) ![](https://m.stacker.news/119445)

In the sea of sameness ![](https://m.stacker.news/119439) Finding a soul in this world seems to be a rare quality these days, especially in software-internet-land. - Every app looks the same. - Every website looks the same. - Every process looks the same. The rise of Tailwind, design system templates, and other dev frameworks has made it easier than ever to achieve visually appealing designs, often without the need for a designer’s hands. Out-of-the-box components, elegant icons, and ready-to-apply CSS are now within reach for whoever desires. This abundance has made programming life easier while speeding up the design process, but it also appears to dull creative thinking. Alongside trends that come and go, sameness has become the default state. The spark of the past has faded in many aspects, far beyond the digital sphere: quirky tech brand logos have turned banal, social networks media wear the same interface, and web design is.. well, web design.
