Dario here reminded me of the good ol days when Bill Gates would whine about Linux. This tech demon's chicken little, fear mongering is crony capitalism of the highest order. His definition of open source is not only misleading but to a bunch of geriatric warmongers, it's as good as telling them that Iran is days away from a nuke. Expect more sensless regulations on access to AI models in the not so distant future thanks to this dude.
Acts 20:35
"I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

Acts 19:17-20
"It was soon news all over Ephesus among both Jews and Greeks. The realization spread that God was in and behind this. Curiosity about Paul developed into reverence for the Master Jesus. Many of those who thus believed stepped out into the light and made a clean break with their secret sorceries. All kinds of witches and warlocks came out of the woodwork with their books of spells and incantations and made a huge bonfire of them. Someone estimated their worth at fifty thousand silver coins. In such ways it became evident that the Word of the Master was now sovereign and prevailed in Ephesus."

Acts 18:9-11
"Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city.” And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them."

The answer is not to beg the state for more enlightened management. We will leave that to Dario Amodei and Anthropic. The answer is to build systems that do not require its permission. Open-source models, coupled with federated training and Bitcoin-native payment rails for AI services. Agents that operate across jurisdictions, compensated in a currency no Treasury can debase and no sanctions regime can effectively freeze.

"The real contest is between permissioned and permissionless systems, between controlled and sovereign computation, between a future of digital liberty and a future of digital vassalage."

We are smack dab right in the middle of Atlas Shrugged. This is the part when Directive 10-289 is issued. This moment will be no different from the day Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act and will be studied by real historians for decades to come.

The tech demons are going to use this as a pretext for KYC'ing AI access; with users outside the US likely to get the more older models in the name of national security of course.

Privacy software is the digital equivalent of drawing your curtains or sealing your letters. When the government prosecutes developers for publishing code that enables lawful privacy, it threatens both the First Amendment's protection of expression and the Fourth Amendment's protection against unreasonable government intrusion.
Once liability can be attached to creators based solely on how strangers use their inventions, every innovator becomes vulnerable. Every software developer becomes a potential defendant and every GitHub repository becomes a legal risk.
Bernstein vs US settled this decades ago. The current prosecutions threaten to revive it under a different name. If these unjust prosecutions are not challenged, expect more arrests but not just of Devs, but of users who are unfortunate to get doxxed like Roman Sterlingov and convicted on similar paper thin evidence that chainlysis can conjure up. This is what the "then they fight you stage looks like".
