Bitcoin seed phrase backups typically have you backup the first 4 letters of each word. This means there are way more 4 letter combinations than the 2048 word word list. Therefore, there are probably plenty of seeds in your seed phrase uniquely identified by 3 letters or less…thus that final letter (or maybe letters) could conceivably by set to any letter (or number) to encode information (such as blockheight at wallet creation, so you don’t have to scan for transactions below that height)… You could extend this to words that need all 4 letters as well, by assuming the last letter for the seed really should be the first in a range of letters corresponding to the first word…that is to say if there are 4 words on the word list that match at the first three letters, then there are 6 ranges within the 26 options for the final letter that can encode data… If 50% of the words on the list can be uniquely identified by 3 letters, then that leaves 6-12 characters that can be used for data encoding per seed. If we allow any letter or number, this could be 26^6-36^12 bits of info…which is enough to encode even a complex wallet descriptor….i think. I get 308 million bits at the low end…if my math is correct.
