This lets the government build its surveillance network by scanning people's faces and fingerprints wherever agents are operating. ICE is scanning people's faces based on what appears to be little more than the color of their skin. We don't know how long this biometric data is stored, how it's safeguarded, or what accountability exists for how it's used. This surveillance tech puts American citizens at risk of being detained or deported based on an app's "match." Just like the Patriot Act gave the government permission to spy on its citizens without probable cause in the name of "protecting America from terrorism," this surveillance tech is poised to scan anyone's biometrics without probable cause in the name of protecting America from brown people. And even though Mexicans are the focal point of this administration, not all undocumented immigrants are people of color.
