Day 22: We will likely make it to mile 295 today and set up camp. We are going too fast and don’t want to be stuck at the beginning of the Sierras for weeks. image

Day 21: We met up with another hiking group here in Big Bear. They challenged our group to a bowling contest; the losing team had to jump in the lake. We got this picture at 1:00 AM with the caption: Promises Made, Promises Kept. It was freezing cold at the time. image

Day 21: The storm has passed and today is beautiful. We will be back on the trail tomorrow. Big Bear CA is a beautiful place. It is approximately 80 miles to the next town. Below is a clip from yesterday.

Day 19: Some days can be tough, but a good meal or a beautiful sunset makes it worth it. Today we hiked into a small town near Big Bear Lake. I have been on the trail for the last 4 days. Tonight I have booked a room alone. 8 others got an Air BNB, but I wanted to be alone for the night. I will do laundry, eat a good meal, and rest. I will meet with the others on the way back to the trail tomorrow morning. Big Bear Lake:

Day 18: Low miles today, but tons of elevation. The trail is washed out in this area, so instead of walking the trail (impossible) and gaining 1500 feet over 10 miles, we are hiking directly up over a mountain ridge. We gained 1500 feet over 1 mile. We started in the river basin pictured below. A few pictures from elevation and the top.
