I arrived home from work today to find a package from @Joe Martin in my mailbox! I knew it should be coming before long, but I wasn't sure when. I immediately headed for my record player because I knew it was my copy of his latest album, Alone in Valentine. I listened to it all the way through right away and then again while eating supper, and enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm finding it hard to narrow down my favorite songs because I like them all! If you've enjoyed Joe's previous music, this album is a great addition. I really enjoyed looking through the album sleeve as I listened, and there's a nice poster/lyric sheet in there too. I miss those little extras when I only get the digital albums! It's definitely worth the extra money on albums like this. Anyway, I just wanted to share my excitement for the new music! I don't think all the songs are online quite yet, but I would definitely recommend checking out the singles and the album when it fully releases! image My CD and vinyl copies!

It really hasn't felt like that long ago that I was listening to some music and came up with the idea of doing these lists, but it's been a year already! It's been a lot of fun. I've found a number of good artists through the V4V platforms, including two of my all-time favorites, Joe Martin and Alicia Stockman. For this week I decided to list a few of the songs I've kept coming back to ever since I discovered V4V. Hopefully everyone isn't too tired of them! I'm also putting links to the previous 51 posts I've made, along with two playlists containing (nearly) all of the songs I picked. There were a few I couldn't find for some reason, but there's still almost 350 different ones! I am planning on changing things around though, so from now on I probably won't be doing a weekly list. I may make a few posts here and there to call out particular artists, albums, etcetera, but it'll be in a more limited way. I may write up something more detailed once I finish a few other writing projects, but the short version is that I enjoy being "connected" a lot less than I used to, and I realized I had been spending a lot more time offline. Making this up every week has been fun and isn't really a lot of work, but I like the flexibility of being able to skip logging in too! As I write this there are two days until Thanksgiving, and I'm definitely thankful for a lot of things. I'm very thankful for all the musicians that are making their music available for people like me to enjoy! I'm sure there are some that make music hoping to become rich and famous, but I also think there are a lot that just do it because they love it. I'm also thankful for the people that have put their time into making the platforms for publishing the music and notes like this one! And last but not least, I'm thankful for the people that shared, zapped, and commented every week on stacker.news and Nostr. @Joe Martin is going to be making a new album! He has crowdfunding campaigns running on Geyser and Kickstarter if anyone wants to contribute toward it. I just wanted to call attention to it because it's nice to see more artists going this route rather than signing with a label to get their music published. It also is a lot of fun for me as a fan to be directly contributing to something I enjoy. He was one of the first artists I started following when I discovered value for value music, and anyone who has seen the weekly V4V music lists I put out knows that his songs show up pretty regularly on them! So I'm looking forward to having him release some more music, and will be excited to be one of the first to get his first vinyl release! I know most people (including me) primarily listen to music digitally, but there's something to be said for putting on a record and just letting it play through.
