On a mission to make western shirts in America.

Notes (13)

Brand mood boards. These things save me. And get me so excited when I look at them. I got to have them printed out and pinned to my walls. Just a reminder of the world I want to build - and the world I want people to feel when wearing our stuff. We’re not there yet - but it’s the North Star. image

Chore Coat Report - 002. The pattern has been plotted, cut out, transferred to heavier card stock, and cut out again (these are now our production patterns). Next step is we use these production patterns to trace and cut out all of the pieces, for each coat that was ordered, and then start sewing. This a super manual, slow process. We don’t have the right space or best machines. I am overwhelmed, and to be honest, not really sure how we’re going to pull this off, but just going for it and taking it one step at a time. My dream is to have our own factory one day. And I’ve realized there is no perfect moment. We just have to start, and take some enormous kicks to the nuts multiple times to figure it out. If we can pull it off and get through this, West Major will grow, be more fun, more successful, and will have something really special 99.9% of brands can’t copy. https://blossom.primal.net/dbde3027edbdba23d5b0bd1a0d5cb6ce1eff3f402353a8f92ce8cc2b4af72aad.mov

We got our pattern for the new desert chore coat plotted, printed, and transferred to this heavier manila card. Next we start cutting the fabric, and sewing 😬 image image

With selling apparel - you get returns. It’s apart of the business. Today was one of those days I had to process a bunch. It’s painful. We did have an exchange though. Which we LOVE. Sometimes people just need a different size. And it was a customer from NOSTR 🖤

We’re going to set up the first western wear factory in Arizona and we’re starting with this garment - the chore coat. We’ve got a bumby ride ahead 🤹🏻‍♂️ image

The new Desert Chore Coat is live. First one we’re making is in Brown Canvas. This is 100% cotton. Fabric is milled in the U.S.A. (which is super rare) and one of the last mills that still makes heavier woven fabric. It’s got big pockets and antique brass snaps and rivets. We’re taking a different approach with this garment. My long term dream is to have our own western wear factory. It’s extremely difficult, expensive and high risk. Many that attempt this fail. But it’s possible. There are brands doing it. And I have to try. This garment is the first step in that journey. We’re going to make them here in Arizona. I’m going to sew as many as I can - and I’ve found a local seamstress that’s going to help me. It’s a mix of feeling very excited, and also wanting to throw up - as we’re going to have to problem solve and figure out a lot of things along the way (things that can only be figured out through doing it). The mfg of these will be very manual, time intensive. We don’t have the best machines yet. We don’t have an automatic cutting table. My kick press is broken. The lady that’s printing out our pattern just told me this morning her printer isn’t working. But there’s only one way to figure it out. And we will. And then we’ll improve everything one coat at a time, until we have a well oiled machine and make the best chore coats in the west. These will be made to order. Expect to get yours 3 weeks from your purchase date. As a thank you - and for your patience - we’re selling them at a slight discount right now. Sizing - I recommend sticking with your shirt size. They’re slightly bigger than our shirts - designed to be worn over a couple layers. So if you wear a medium, go medium. image image image
