The #growyourownfood season has started for us and we are really excited for this season this year. This will be our first complete year in our #homestead. The goal this year is to learn as much as possible about our land, the soil and the various possibilities for food independence. We do not expect to be seasoned farmers in just a year or two but we are trying out best to learn. We have some peas sprouting at the moment. We have direct sown some broad beans, carrots and radish. We also have sprinkled some coriander and fenugreek seeds. We have thyme, oregano and rosemary doing pretty well at the moment. I have never had luck with carrots so fingers crossed for this attempt. image #gardening

We are working on connecting our back porch to the side deck with stairs. The basic structure will be done in a day or two, then we move on to fixing the joints between stones. image #buildstr #homestead #construction

The weather has been so good this last week and we have been out all day every day to try to make the most of it. We were out collecting some dandelions to try to make some salve with it. We love a good tomato and coriander chutney as a condiment so really happy that we have some fresh coriander in our garden. We have sprinkled some more coriander seeds along with fenugreek seeds so let's see if they do well. image #growyourownfood #homestead

Before being a mom,I could never imagine having all of my major emotions being directly correlated to someone else's emotions. And now, her happiness dictates my whole mood. Today was a great day. The weather was perfect and she enjoyed visiting all her animal friends ๐Ÿ˜Š image #momstr #happy #belssed

Spring is just around the corner. After months of grey skies and weeks of storms and rain, colours have started making a comeback in our garden. Hopefully it will be a good growing season! #flowers #homesteading #garden

Two days ago, husband and I had a conversation about how we are almost towards the finish line and how we do not wish to do any work on the house for a bit. And then, the Portuguese storm got us real good. This shed was used as storage space for many boxes, all of them got drenched. We have had many issues with the walls which borders our land but we did not see this coming. #storm #homesteading

We have had a series of storms hit us the last weeks. As a result, it has not stopped pouring down for a week now. Everything is flooded, including the tiny path to our house. It took us a good few hours to manage the flow of the waterfall so that we could walk in the path again. #Nature is so mighty, just a tiny reminder for us again. image #homesteading #storm #aftermath

In Nepali traditional kitchen, everything is cooked either in cold processed mustard oil or ghee (ghiu in Nepali language). Over the last decades, we slowly saw a shift from these oils towards cheaper alternatives such as sunflower oil and soyabean oil, both marketed as oils good for heart health. I often wonder if money is the only reason we shift away from things that have worked for our health for so long. We started cooking everything in ghee five six years ago and we are not going back to seed oils. This here is our newest batch of ghee and it smells and tastes amazing!!! image #ghee #homesteading

We had a wonderful day today. Although it was not really sunny, we were happy with a dry day. Our daughter loves being outdoors all the time, children don't seem to be affected by rain nor the cold it seems. As I was finishing up some chores, husband took her to see our neighbour's grazing sheep and once he was back, it was my turn to take her outside for a walk as the husband worked on his computer. It's always such fun to see the way she interacts with her surroundings. These are truly "the good old days" the old me will come back to. #blessed #momstr #homesteading #walks image

This brings me back to the happiest memories from my childhood. My maternal grandfather's house was in a remote village, a day walk away from Kathmandu. There was no electricity and no signs of infrastructure at all. Wood was the sole source of energy and my grandfather would always have a big heap of firewood outside his house, safely kept under a aluminium roofed shed. All of his wood came from his own land, we are not there yet but we are working towards that goal. Come to think of it, the life that we have embraced at the moment is do much in line with the life that he had. Although he served in the army for some years, he was a farmer through and through. His day would begin by strolling through his vegetable garden, talking to his beloved plants and sometimes I catch myself doing that too. I wonder what he would have thought of our corner here. #homesteading #nostalgia image

Ever since we moved to Portugal, I have been looking for tallow everywhere and unfortunately not able to find it. I started using tallow as moisturiser during my pregnancy and since then I do not want to use anything else. After months of searching for suet, my neighbour got me a small amount of suet and I finally rendered my very first batch of tallow. Will be making some moisturiser in a day or two with some other incredible ingredients. image #tallow #skincare #homesteading

Finally our carpenter has started working on the floor upstairs. We know that he has multiple projects running at the same time so whenever he is here we are so thankful and every day is a guess work if he would show up, but we did know that this is part of the work culture here so we are prepared ๐Ÿ˜‰ image #buildstr #homesteading #construction

The lower socioeconomic class, who would gain the most from stepping outside of #fiat systems and saving in sats, are unfortunately the last ones who will be able to access information and understand the characteristics of these two systems. If we zoom out and look at nations as a whole, similar tendencies are prevelant. Point in case, #Nepal. I was born and lived there until a decade ago. Although I studied economics and finance, I am ashamed to admit that it took me a long time to understand the real world functioning of "money". And although my knowledge is still sub par, I am convinced that Nepal could benefit a lot if it were to seriously invest in #Bitcoin infrastructure. Nepal has a vast amount of water resources and given the topography of the country, it generates almost 100% of its energy from hydropower. Electricity is really cheap and abundant so even now, stepping into mining would be a significant lucrative investment. Instead, the government has put a ban on individuals owning bitcoins. Nepal would gain such a big advantage if it were to take #Bitcoin seriously. Maybe the issue of massive brain drain would then be solved and the looming emptying of the country would halt.

We have had many conversations with family and friends regarding why we live the way we do and why individual property rights is so important to us. When we talk about #bitcoin and how it solves so many problems created by the #fiat system, we are almost always told that we dream and desire a utopia. Why is there such a resistance to understanding a "new" system while clearly the existing system has failed most of humanity is beyond me. Wanting to live a life where we have an autonomy over our own bodies, our property, our mind and way of life has certainly trimmed our social circles, thank god for #nostr so that we know that there are other freedom living, sovereign, crazy people out there.

Not to brag, but we too have hot water running through our pipes now ๐Ÿ˜‰. After months of trying and mostly failing, after endless moments where we were both stretched thin because of the lack of basic amenities, and that too with a child with us, we feel like we have taken such a big step forward. And because we have running water, we also have a washing machine now!!! I am one happy woman!!!! image #luxuries #plumbing #homesteading #grateful image

Tears of joy were shed today! After more than eight months of living without the luxury of running water, we finally have managed to welcome our house into modernity. We have also setup the boiler and water filtration system, will post an update on them tomorrow. As for now, we have running water!!!!! image #homesteading #water #grateful
