I've been overweight most of my adult life, to one degree or another, and have gone up and down on the scale, depending on any number of factors (exercise levels, diet, fasting regimens, etc.). For a year or two, I kept pretty consistent with OMAD but have found recently that it has been tough to keep up with due to various commitments. It's the usual sob story (or excuses) you'll hear from many a fat man. Anyway, ages ago, I'd heard about dry fasting from Cole Robinson (of Snake Diet fame) but didn't think too much of it. However, something called the "Dry Fasting Club" popped up on my radar the other day, and I've started working through their long-form articles and video series. In one of their articles, this passage caught my attention: "If you're trying to build a weight loss routine that is not too crazy but offers powerful fat loss, you want to look into 36-hour dry fasts once a week. This is a powerful routine that will absolutely change you into a new person over a few months. In a year you won't recognize yourself." It made me wonder how accurate this really is, but I'm willing to give it a go. For the next month, I'll be doing at least one 36-hour dry fast per week and will let you know what kind of progress I've made. If things trend in a positive direction (for fat loss), I'll definitely continue beyond that. Caveat lector: Given how much I post about privacy, you won't be surprised by the fact that I won't be posting progress photos. However, I'll let you know how many kilos I've gained or dropped otherwise. #fasting #dryfasting #health #healthstr
In the last day or two, I've received two zapvertising zaps. The first was for coffee from Latin America, and the most recent was for secure web hosting. I'm not in need of either service at the moment, but believe you me, I'd definitely consider those two before other providers or vendors, simply because they're on Nostr, are using zapvertising, AND are part of the BTC circular economy. #zapvertising
It always boggles my mind why people wouldn't want to set up a lightning address on Nostr. Even if you have zero plans to zap others, why would you turn down free zaps?! View quoted note →
For those using Zoom, GoogleMeet, or the like, do you have a virtual background image or video that you use and would recommend? I've used the stock images on and off for my backgrounds, but it would be nice to have a few other options. Both professional images and comical ones would be acceptable! #asknostr
It's finally steak time. Don't forget to have some beef today! #foodstr #steakstr image
One of my latest obsessions is this guy on YouTube who sort of chants the entire progression of a given word from Proto-Indo-European all the way down to modern English. These videos make me want to do a MSc or PhD in Historical Linguistics. #linguistics #nerd
Thanks to everyone who shared solid articles on ecash / cashu privacy. One other question that came to mind that I didn't quite get an answer to (possibly because I'm also rather ignorant of how lightning works), but... Do mints have any kind of identifiable lightning addresses when sending LN transactions back out into the wider ecosystem? For example, if I wanted to send out a thousand sats from a mint to a friend's wallet, would this be obvious to him or anyone else watching where those funds came from? Could he or anyone else say for certain that A) they came from a mint (as opposed to a generic lightning wallet) and B) they came from a specific mint? #ecash #cashu #asknostr @calle
I'm thinking about expanding some of my technical knowledge via hobbies. Some friends and colleagues have recommended drones and 3d printing. I'm leaning towards the latter, especially as I find it more practical, as I can build things to use day-to-day in my life. Has anyone else delved into both? What did you end up focusing more time on? Why did you choose what you did? #drones #3dprinting
Can anyone recommend an article on the privacy benefits of using a cashu mint to send and receive lightning payments? How private are each? What are any other advantages or disadvantages? Bonus points if the articles can explain it to me like I'm five. 😆 #asknostr #cashu @calle
Would it be accurate to say that 90% of #Olas photos are either protein, coffee, beer, or dogs?
Early last year, I stumbled upon a few AI tools that could be added as bots to Zoom or GoogleMeet calls. They claimed to be able to take minutes and to organise them into useful reports or whatever thereafter. Has anyone tried such tools and how accurate have you found them to be? #asknostr #ai
Most mornings, I brew up a strong shot of coffee with this humble little moka pot and bring it to my classroom in a travel mug. After taking off the lid, the pleasant smell of coffee fills the air. However, I may be the only one that thinks so. Some days, students will remark about the "intense smell of coffee". Occasionally, their noses deceive them, and they ask why they smell instant noodles. That seems to be a fairly common thing. Today though, two students came in to drop off their work and ... asked why my room smelled like "spicy pork". I never in my life would think that coffee could smell like pork, but what do I know? 😆 #coffeechain image
@Pawn Dev Out of curiosity, what does it mean to be a cybermedievalist? Are there certain core tenets you subscribe to? What does your day-to-day look like?
WhatsApp's new privacy settings allow users control over who can see their profile photos? I'd much prefer anonymous account creation and protection from metadata mining! That's where SimpleX and the like really shine. #privacy
