Curious... If an individual has more than one npubs but want to have them unrelated to each other... Is there something one may need to do ensure separation? Is there any metadata that could reveal two npub login to a client from the same device or locations etc? #asknostr #freedomtech #opsec #privacy

Interested synchronicity... I was literally reviewing a notebook before I store it away and I saw this from my morning pages on 12.09.24 about the word Deliberate is highlighed that stuck with me from an interview I'd listened to with @jack. Right after I started to read @Max's new book and deliberate is staring me in the face. Gonna let it sync in... And keep reading.

What if today wasn’t just National Night Out but also National #Bitchat Day? People are already gathering. Talking community, safety, neighborhood coordination. Seems like a good moment to share a tool that works -- when the grid goes down. Or when the network’s being watched. 💬 Peer-to-peer over Bluetooth + mesh 📡 No servers, no towers 🛠️ Quiet resilience 🕊️ Local-first comms, neighbor-to-neighbor Bitchat’s just one way to stay connected when systems fail -- or when they’re too controlled to trust. If you’re at a block party tonight, maybe mention it. Or don’t. Slap someone with a trout instead. Let's see, will it take off? #NationalBitchatDay #MeshMessaging #FreedomTech #NationalNightOut #ChatControl

🧠 Open Brainstorm: Freedom Tech, Chat Control & What’s Next I've been sitting with this question and want to open it up to the builders, cryptographers, privacy advocates, and protocol designers in the freedom tech space: If much of the push behind Chat Control is coming from child protection NGOs and institutional pressure… what do these orgs actually need to feel supported—without demanding surveillance-level access? And more importantly: What would it look like for builders of freedom tech—FOSS devs, cypherpunks, cryptographers—to offer real solutions instead of just reacting to bad ones? Because right now, it seems like a lot of child protection orgs are calling for upload scanning and client-side detection. Not because they’re necessarily malicious—but because they’re under pressure to “do something” and don’t see viable alternatives. They’re being funneled toward invasive solutions that compromise everyone’s privacy, including the very children they’re trying to protect. 🔴 NGOs and Orgs Seen Supporting Scanning or CSAR Thorn A well-known child safety org co-founded by Ashton Kutcher. Strongly supports detection mandates and has been cited by EU officials as a key influence behind client-side scanning proposals. Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) A UK-based CSAM watchdog. Maintains image databases and detection tools. Known for close collaboration with platforms and, at times, with government policy efforts. WeProtect Global Alliance A multinational network of governments and NGOs focused on online child protection. Often aligned with calls for stricter moderation and detection mandates. Missing Children Europe An umbrella group in Brussels advocating for digital protections for missing and exploited children. Has signaled support for stronger scanning systems. INHOPE A global network of hotlines that receive and process CSAM reports. Often works in tandem with law enforcement and detection frameworks. These organizations seem to be operating from a place of urgency and legal accountability, trying to meet political demands. But they’re being backed into supporting mass surveillance tools as the only viable option. 🏛️ Key Political Figures Driving the CSAR / Chat Control Proposal Ylva Johansson European Commissioner for Home Affairs. The architect of the CSAR proposal and its most vocal advocate. She continues to promote upload scanning—even in encrypted apps—as a necessity for child safety. The European Commission The unelected executive body that initiated the proposal and continues pushing it, despite resistance from civil society, the European Parliament, and digital rights experts. Council Members from France, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, and Italy These governments are largely backing the latest iteration of Chat Control and are pushing for a Council vote by October 2025. Swing states to watch: Germany, Austria, Czechia, Slovenia These countries were previously hesitant but are now facing heavy pressure to fall in line. --- So Here’s the Open Brainstorm: What tools or frameworks can we offer that help meet child protection goals without compromising encryption or enabling mass surveillance? What already exists that could be adopted or improved? What could be prototyped specifically for NGOs in this space? What are these orgs actually under pressure to prove or deliver—and how can we meet those goals in a rights-respecting way? We say “privacy is protection.” So what would a cypherpunk trust-and-safety layer actually look like? Can we build something that makes it easier for orgs to choose integrity over control? --- ✳️ Highlighting a Key Exception: The German Child Protection Association (DKSB) One important exception deserves special attention—the German Child Protection Association (DKSB) has publicly opposed Chat Control. They’ve taken a bold and principled stance that shows child protection and digital rights do not have to be at odds. They’ve called mass scanning “disproportionate,” warned against false positives and state overreach, and continue to advocate for education, prevention, and targeted investigations that respect fundamental freedoms. In a landscape where many child-focused NGOs are being pulled toward surveillance-based solutions, DKSB is holding the line. They’re a living example that it’s possible to stand with children and against mass surveillance. Maybe part of our job right now is to amplify voices like theirs—and support the orgs that are leading with ethics, not fear. What would it look like to partner with DKSB or others like them, and help educate or influence other groups currently being pulled toward CSAR-style mandates? --- This isn’t just about stopping one law. It’s about proving that there’s a better way—technically, ethically, and strategically. If we don’t build it, governments will keep defaulting to the worst possible tools. So—who’s working on this? Who wants to be? Let’s map. #FreedomTech #ChatControl #FOSS #Privacy #Encryption #ChildProtection #CSAR #ProtocolDesign #CypherpunkBrainstorm image

I think I should vibe code this into existence... I do really like this memories feature... I envision getting memories a decade from now from my Nostr archives. Life feels like such a blur sometimes that for me I really enjoy when I get a quickie glimpse and reminder of the past: "oh yeah, wow that was a whole other lifetime ago I forgot". image

The path may be opening to be in Nashville, TN for a few days or a few weeks. I am just kinda wondering if it's worth taking the adventure. Will I have the chance to meet some Nostr and Bitcoin folks and make friends there? Who do you know who lives there? #asknostr
