> But the anarchist ALSO assumes this: that their opt in is ππ°ππΆπ―π΅π’π³πΊ and this offers them the promise of a consensual society
This is the most important point that most people do not understand.
The voluntarist/anarchist/consensualist approach is about _norms_. By opting in to a set of norms around consent, you understand that you're creating the possibility of a social order where others also understand these norms and are signalling their willingness to live by them.
It's a coordination mechanism, not a guarantee of compliance. ...But neither is the most violent authoritarian control system a _guarantee_ of compliance. Guarantees don't and cannot exist in this domain. pretending that they can is the road to violence and destruction. Acknowledging they can't is the road to peace.
The "pEoPLe cAn StiLL dO BaD ThiNgs" response completely ignores these key points.

Just enabled bitcoin payments for a friend's Square terminal.
They were skeptical... then they saw the "0% transaction fee, instantly convert to USD" and they said, "fuck yea - do it". This is someone who has been mildly hostile to Bitcoin historically, but also hostile to paying credit card companies 3%.
The game is on. Square likely just kicked off an inflection point in history.
It's always fun when you see, in notifications, that some npub is scrolling back through your note history and emoji-reacting to stuff :)

where is the chapter of antifa that isn't into communism and obssessed with transgenderism? where's the chapter of maga that isn't into military surveillence states and obsessed with the christian god?
from both extremes and all the way through the middle, political discourse in america is suffused with statist, coercive, collectivist mind viruses of one form or another.
voluntarism and stateless free market anarchism has no marketing nor mass-appeal game - more or less intrinsically and necessarily.
if fate is determined by memetics and collectivist mindshare, it doesn't look too rosy for individual freedom.
...then again, a free market #anarchist association doesn't need "mass adoption", it only needs willing exchange partners, strong opsec and defenses, and wealth. no matter if there is 1 adopter or 1 million. it is merely a permissionless, exit-preserving set of norms for interacting with others; anyone is free to participate or opt out any time. its a pattern of behavior. an open protocol.
