Quick Start Guide to Getting Your US Ham Radio License
1. Use HamStudy.org: HamStudy is a free website that provides practice tests for all ham radio licenses. It can help individuals prepare for their exams and find online or in-person test sessions. www.hamstudy.org
2. Check Out W4EEY on YouTube: W4EEY on YouTube offers excellent ham radio tutorials. He has playlists covering all ham radio license levels and occasionally conducts live classes. This resource can be valuable for learning ham radio concepts. Here are the playlists for the various licenses:
⚡️ Tech Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ_9BZQ8gpziUWPBT3rOvSV6MCCeCaiK0

⚡️ Extra Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ_9BZQ8gpzhKG9Ha27YL9szWqBTmlYwU
3. Explore ARRL and Local Clubs: The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) website can help individuals find local ham radio clubs. These clubs often have information about local repeaters, club meetings, and ham radio "nets" (radio meetups). It's a good way to connect with other ham radio enthusiasts in your area. (
4. Phone/Tablet Practice Test App: The hamstudy.org app has recently been updated. They did a really nice job with it. It’s a couple of fiat dollars, I think you will find it is worth it.

Meshtastic Site Planner, an Open Source Tool to Optimize Your Mesh Deployments
By Mathew Patrick
“A well-placed Meshtastic device can have incredible range, but planning the best deployment often requires software which is proprietary, expensive, and difficult to use. The Meshtastic Site Planner is a new, open-source tool that allows you to easily run accurate predictions of your device range in different locations. This tool builds on sophisticated and proven radio propagation models and creates a modern, intuitive application that everyone can freely use.”

New release:
VarAC V10.4.3
“With Auto QSL generator, Callsign tags, Last known locator, VMail drafts, SSID support, Scroll down indicator and soooo much more!”
“But that’s not all—there’s even more! Take a look at these additional enhancements you’ll find in V10.4:”
Enhancements/Changes:
Added new tags: <MYTIME> and <UTCTIME> to include time in your automated messages.
VMail Drafts folder: Store VMails that are "works in progress" for later updates and sending.
Added a "Skip if Active" option in the Application Launcher.
Removing queued, but yet-to-be-transmitted broadcasts once a connection is established.
Added a file explorer button next to each application in the application launcher for easy EXE selection.
Replying to an urgent VMail is automatically marked as urgent.
New tag <FS> to send your own frequency scheduler plan.
Removed the inquire tags from the Gestures list (to create extra space), as they now appear in the new "Inquire" module.
New GPS settings: Reconnect GPS indefinitely.
New GPS settings: Show live GPS coordinates in the bottom strip on the main VarAC screen.
You can now disable the "Leave a message" popup upon connecting to an unattended station (either from settings → QSO or from the popup itself).
In EmComm mode, you can disable QSY popups once connected on a CF (new setting).
Added custom CQ option "FF" for Flora & Fauna.
Send PSK-Reporter self-report if remaining on the same frequency every 4 hours.
Added an "Are you sure?" popup when canceling a VMail you’ve already started composing.
Customization of the default QSO log (ADIF) comment text (override the default comment "QSO with VarAC").
Added "Copy Selected" on the right-click menu in the message viewer popup (when double-clicking a message in the Datastream).
Made URLs clickable in the message viewer popup.”
Bug Fixes:
Preventing manual insertion of values into the wait time in the application launcher.
When opening the Callsign Lookup, it previously locked the SQLite DB, preventing other traffic from being written.
In Callsign History, broadcasts without a frequency were not loading.
Removing the extra character after the alert tag is added to a broadcast.
Fixing the troubleshooting link in the resources menu.
It was not possible to edit a VMail in the Outbox while in Linux compatibility mode.
Clicking a URL in the Datastream for a single-line message resulted in an error.
Rigctld with SparkSDR had issues due to the wrong termination character (\r instead of \n).

Vero 50 watt radio now with Bluetooth KISS TNC!
By KM6LYE Radio
“Sure, it's cheap and headless, but the Vero VR N7500 now it has a bluetooth KISS TNC! This is a single channel rig at 50 watts that lets you do APRS/AX25 via a new, experimental firmware that implements a KISS TNC over bluetooth. Tap on the firmware version in Device Settings in the "HT" app a bunch of times until it prompts you to download the beta firmware (0.7.14) Then pair the device with your android device (Sorry IOS, no BTLE here). Enable KISS in the Vero "HT" app in DeviceSettings-Signaling, then connect with APRSDroid, Bluetooth, KISS TNC, no channel number selected. Make sure you have an APRS channel selected in the HT app as well under APRS settings, it will auto switch to that channel.. or so it seems.
Keep in mind this is extreme grey-market stuff, so anything can happen. If you're like me, you may have noticed it's not as sensitive as your Yaesu APRS rig, but... It has a KISS TNC!!! :)”
