Grocery store ran out of potatoes. Good thing they grow like weeds from the compost. It took me 3 years to remove the potatoes growing around the fruit trees (they not good for the trees, I accidentally from the composted) Compost volunteers is usually where the bulk of my pumpkin vines and tomatoes also come from. I wonder if the people panic buying potatoes understand how easy they are to grow here. Even if they put them in now by the time frost hits they'd have a bunch of tiny potatoes in the ground and after winter those will grow into new plants. It also depends which variety, like with weed how you have Auto flowers that start flowering after a set time, those being pre determined, and then the undetermined varieties that grow according to daylight hours. Potatoes also come in pre determined and undetermined. Undetermined will grow all spring and summer and produce a lot, pre determined will grow until they're ready to harvest than die back.
