Only 4 more concrete sections to pour, which we'll get done within two days, likely Monday and Wednesday this week. Then all that's left is finishing work!!! Also, have booked an incredible artist to do a mural at the back. Booking fee paid in Bitcoin. It's gonna look epic! Beyond grateful to Block for making this possible. @jack πŸ™πŸΏπŸ§‘πŸ”₯ image

There being no untouchable heroes in Bitcoin is one of my favourite things about Bitcoin. Elevating a human being to a level that is not human, is perhaps the most dangerous thing we've ever done. Again, and again. And again.

There's a different kind of excitement in the air. Could be the #Bitcoin price. Could be the Fedi community open day we had. Could be something else. But whatever it is, it's tangible.

Similar to how (some) vaccinated people blamed unvaccinated people for the spread of covid, and similar to how that narrative was driven by governments and big pharma, when the collapse of fiat becomes imminent and obvious, Bitcoiners will be blamed for causing the collapse.

Just finished reading The Genesis Book by @Aaron van Wirdum I knew the gist of the history, but this book really put it all together in a fascinating way. Personally, my take away is this: It's clear that the people who built the foundations for Bitcoin understood one thing very well: Bureaucrats would never accommodate / allow for the existence of what they wanted to build. They knew that if they built it, and it worked, the bureaucrats would eventually come for them. Now it's working. And I think we'd do well to remember this, and remind new people of this insight that was so well understood by those early pioneers: No amount pandering will suffice. If what we want is freedom and decentralized money, we are fundamentally at odds with the most powerful people in the world. They will not allow us to fit in, not for as long as the tool we have at our disposal has the ability the shift the balance of power. image

The irony of large exchanges using these metrics to advertise themselves is next level. How many millions of people (and the world's largest professional institutions) trusted the banking system prior to 2008? If you care even one iota about #Bitcoin (and the reasons it exist) then the fact that people trust you is not something to be proud of. It is something to get away from. image

I'm flying to Johannesburg tomorrow to apply for a European visa. It's a 2-hour flight and the application has to be done in person. Application form is 8 pages, plus almost 100 pages of supporting documents to prove that I won't stay illegally. (It could be less, but I've learnt that the more paper you throw at them, the less likely they are to say no. They must hate trees. I don't know...) Anyway, it'd be great to travel more freely and not have to go through this shitshow everytime I travel. But the funny thing is, even if they let me, I wouldn't wanna stay. image

SATS to GO! is a Bitcoin Ekasi initiated project, sparked by the experience of constant late arrivals. It is an attempt to address this challenge and is spearheaded by our Project Coordinator, the incredibly talented @Thinus Mouton! SATS to GO! is building a platform for Punctuality Rewards, utilizing the #Bitcoin Lightning Network, from login via LNURL-Auth to receiving SATS via LNULR-Withdraw! This is a lightning powered solution which can (for example) not only track employees' attendance at work, but also provide them with incentive to be punctual, rewarded in sats! And there are many other use cases! First conceptualized at the BTrust Hackathon, in partnership with the @Africa Bitcoin Conference, SATS to GO! was born in late 2023. Development is continuing, slowly, but steadily, and is being worked on, part-time, by a group of volunteer #African Lightning Network developers and Bitcoin Core Contributors, all of whom are BTrust cohorts who have chosen work on SATS to GO! as a way to build their own Proof-of-Work portfolio. And, thanks to them, we have a (very) early working product!!! See the video below. Incredibly grateful to the people behind BTrust. @jack πŸ§‘πŸ™

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but is Jan Oberholzer, former COO of Eskom, the South African state-owned energy monopoly, not talking about stranded power here? You mean to say that, in a country where there's regular scheduled power cuts, there's (potential) overproduction of electricity that's wasted due to a lack of transmission infrastructure? The kind of electricity that could be used to, I don't know..? Maybe mine #Bitcoin and generate profit, to re-invest in power infrastructure...

On average, I block about 3 scammer accounts on Twitter/X with every single post. I post. They comment. I block. I know. It's pointless, they'll just keep coming, but I do it anyway. And I suppose, eventually, that'll be an issue here too. But for now, the serenity of coming here and not seeing posts about Bitcoin's pre-ordained bull run is pure bliss.

Fun fact: The orange horns on our 'LaBitcoineta' #Bitcoin Land Cruiser are real Kudu horns and came from a bull that was hunted only days prior. When we painted the horns the skull was still moist after being skinned. Kudu is a popular game animal and is often hunted to make biltong, a local cured meat delicacy. On rare occasions, when Kudu bulls fight, they literally 'lock horns' with the spirals becoming entangled to the point that they cannot seperate. If this happens, both males die of starvatiom. The entire vehicle, including the horns element, was designed and executed by our incredibly talented in-house Special Projects Coordinator, @Thinus Mouton Give him a follow! image
