Reading great literature takes you out of time and, when done well, leads you to an encounter with both your own real authentic self and expands your capacity to encounter/understand/connect with the real authentic selves of others. It is a form of truth-seeking. The fiat world, by subjugating your time to the hamster wheel (and keeping you on it with inflation) and nuking your attention span with social media, valid consumerism, etc, distances you from yourself and makes it exceedingly difficult to encounter/understand/connect with the real authentic selves of others. In this way it’s anti-truth-seeking. One way to rebel (on the level of self) is to read great literature.
