A thought-provoking perspective on bitcoin from Femi Longe.
Question about Bitkey's recovery process: They claim it's a standard 2 of 3 multisig. However, their recovery method seems unconventional. Bitkey allows users to restore their multisig setup even if 2 out of 3 keys are lost by contacting Bitkey for the server key. Does the server key store more than just 1 of 3 private keys? Wouldn't this key need to store the entire multisig data (something like output descriptors)? Script type, derivation path, and private keys for ALL other keys? How else could it recreate the multisig?

The last month has been pretty busy with fiat job & freelance projects. Schedule is finally freeing up in December. Looking forward to a clear schedule. The joy of flow state w/ Figma open and brainstorming ways to improve the eNuts send and recieve Ecash flows. I’ve already laid down some strong improvements and designs I’m proud of. The end goal is to get these operations down to as little taps as possible while creating the feeling of a little magic in the interaction. I can’t wait for these to get fleshed out and merged.
Are coinjoins on halt due to high the on-chain fee environment? Wasabi Wallet been awaiting coinjoin for a few days now.
Follow up on some #nostrdesign. Thinking of how to improve the UX of redeeming cashu tokens within the Amethyst timeline. Considering a single redeem button for simplicity. For users with Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC/NIP-47), we'll display NWC as the app/client. Other Ecash/LN wallets will be listed in a slide-up modal. Users can choose a default wallet to avoid frequent modal interactions.
Thinking about ways to improve the UX of redeeming cashu tokens seamlessly within the Amethyst timeline.

I spend so much time on a 9-5 that isn't bitcoin related. It bums me out I can't spend the majority of my work day working on bitcoin.
Such a beautiful way to end an introduction.

My talk in Riga now up. I look into the evolution of Bitcoin UIs, examine common UX hurdles, and show how different wallets address these issues. I also share key takeaways from mainstream tech and the necessary trade-offs in Bitcoin design. #bh2023
@eNuts ⚡️🌰 is the winner of the @BOLT🔩FUN #nostrasia hackathon! For this hackathon we aimed to refine the Nostr integration, making it more user-friendly and efficient. Nostr and eCash are unstoppable. Can't wait for everyone to try the updates in the upcoming release.

Reading about early cypherpunk remailers, it struck me how similar the incentives are between running a remailer and a ecash mint. Back in the 90s, they explored the idea of "digital postage" but didn’t have a foundational money like Bitcoin. Bob runs a service (Chaumian ecash mint). Alice values its features, (transmitting information online privately, in ecash the data is the money). Alice uses Bob's mint and Bob takes a fee (digital postage) for maintaining the infrastructure and providing the service.

Diving into "True Names" by #VernorVinge tonight. Nice to find Timothy May's essay “True Nyms and Crypto Anarchy” bundled in the reprint edition.

I get the feels sometimes when I think about Phillip Zimmerman. This king published PGP online and faced a 3-year federal investigation, risking prosecution because it reached outside the U.S. One of the most based humans to walk the planet. Here’s a goofy design a did to pay respect to the OG.

This is what a cashu mint looks like.

Exploring ways to display Ecash mints & their trustworthiness. What data would you want as a user connecting to an Ecash mint?

In the future I think we'll move past metal seed phrases for Bitcoin backups to a more high-tech and elegant solution. We'll look back at this era as the dark ages. When we essentially turned a digitally native asset back into a physical one. If bitcoin is the most advanced form of money, then the process of securing it shouldn't be so archaic. We have a groundbreaking computer science revolution allowing value transfer across the internet without third parties, yet securing it involves carefully etching/hammering dots on metal. The process is stressful. One mistake and you might lose your money forever. I've done it many times and it's always nerve-wracking. Once you bang these little dots or numbers into the metal, you must hide this piece of metal carefully. If you don’t, or if someone finds it, they could steal all your bitcoin. The UX is at odds with "money the future." Steve Job’s said “You've got to start with the customer experience and work backward to the technology.” Here, it feels the opposite happened. We'll eventually find a better way and look back at this era like we do paper wallets.
