Polar bears give birth in winter, usually to twins.
Young cubs live with their mothers for some 28 months to learn the survival skills of the far north. Females aggressively protect their young, but receive no help from their solitary male mates. In fact, male Polar Bears may even kill young of their species.โฃ
The precarious Arctic ice and food shortage threatens this mother bearโs ability to teach her cubs to survive and thrive.

Coral bleaching alerts remain active across many parts of the Philippines, with Alert Level 2 conditions detected in parts of Sibuguey Bay and Alert Level 1 conditions affecting several reef areas nationwide.
Large portions of Philippine waters are also under Warning and Watch status, indicating ongoing heat stress that may already be causing bleaching in some reefs.
If you have access to a coral reefโwhether you observe bleaching or find reefs that remain healthyโwe encourage you to help document current conditions.
Every report is valuable for tracking the extent of bleaching, identifying resilient reefs, monitoring recovery, and supporting coral reef conservation efforts across the country.

Gwenllian the warrior princess has sometimes been dubbed the Welsh Boudicca, as she too was a female warrior. A fascinating character of Welsh history. 
Gwenllian ferch Gruffudd was a princess, the daughter of Gruffudd ap Cynan and Angharad ferch Owain, king and queen of Gwynedd in the late 11th/early 12th centuries.
She married Gruffudd ap Rhys, Prince of Deheubarth in around 1116. (One of their sons, Rhys, later went onto become king of Deheubarth in 1155.)
Tensions were high at this time between the Welsh and the invading Normans who were making incursions into South Wales.
In 1136 the Welsh saw an opportunity to regain some ground - the death of English King Henry I with no heir resulted in a power struggle between his nephew and daughter, leading to the Anarchy.
This breakdown in law and order, and weakened throne, enabled the Welsh to form a rebellion starting in South Wales with Hywel ap Maredudd, who marched to Gลตyr (Gower) and defeated the Normans there.
Gwenllian's husband Gruffudd took the opportunity to travel to the north, Gwynedd, to seek support from Gwenllian's father, his father-in-law Gruffudd ap Cynan.
While he was away, the Normans raided castles in Deheubarth and Gwenllian was forced to raise an army to defend them herself.
Gwenllian was captured by the Normans in battle near Kidwelly Castle, and was beheaded by the Normans. Two of her sons, Morgan and Maelgwyn were also killed.
Even though she was defeated, her rebellion inspired Iorwerth ab Owain (of Gwent) to defeat the Norman lord of Ceredigion. Gwenllian's brothers also marched on Ceredigion on hearing of her death.
There is a field near Kidwelly Castle where the battle is thought to have taken place, known as Maes Gwenllian - a spring is said to have welled up on the spot where she died, and her ghost is said to haunt the field!

The castle was originally a Norman wooden castle built in the early 12th Century as a defence against the Welsh. The ruins we see today are the later Norman stone fortifications.

A Cave That Grows Against Gravity๐ซ๐ท
Inside Franceโs Grotte du Grand Roc, the walls are covered with rare โeccentricโ limestone formations โ tiny mineral branches that seem to grow in every direction, almost as if they are defying gravity.
Discovered in 1924 and opened to visitors in 1927, the cave sits in the cliffs above the Vรฉzรจre Valley in Dordogne. Unlike the regionโs famous prehistoric painted caves, Grand Roc is known for its surreal natural architecture: stalactites, stalagmites, calcite flows, and crystal-like formations packed into one underground chamber.

Floridaโs coral reefs are at the heart of the Keys experience. ๐ชธ๐ฉต 
Three years after an unprecedented marine heatwave impacted reefs across the Florida Keys, our team at Coral Restoration Foundation is continuing the long-term work of rebuilding local coral populations, helping restore the reefs that support marine life, local communities, and the regionโs economy.
Between October 1st, 2025 and June 1st, 2026, we returned nearly 16,000 corals from 17 species to 10 reef sites throughout the Florida Keys. More than four out of every five of those corals (over 13,000 colonies in total) were outplanted with funding support from the Tourist Development Council (The Florida Keys & Key West).
TDC's long-standing support is a key part of what makes restoration at this scale possible โ one of many partnerships that keep this work moving forward.
