🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image image On this day in 1980, the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers LP “Damn The Torpedoes” peaked at #2 on the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart (February 9) Their third studio album was a breakthrough for Petty and the Heartbreakers. It was their first Top 10 album, and was only kept from #1 by Pink Floyd's “The Wall” in the US. Tom Petty's response to being anchored at #2 was: “I love Pink Floyd but I hated them that year!” This classic LP produced two songs that made the Top 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, "Don't Do Me Like That" (#10) and "Refugee". It also went all the way to #1 in New Zealand, #2 in Canada, and #15 in Australia. In 2020, the album was ranked #231 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. #tompetty, #tompettyandtheheartbreakers, #damnthetorpedoes, #refugee, #dailyrockhistory, #mikecampbell, #80smusic, #80srock, #thisdayinrock, #rockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image image On this day in 1986, the Talking Heads single “And She Was” debuted on the UK Singles Chart at #45 ( February 8 ) Drummer Chris Frantz said of the song, "It's a story about a woman who has the power to levitate above the ground and to check out all her neighbors from a kind of bird's eye view. And the guy who's writing the song is in love with her and he kinda wishes she would just be more normal and, like, come on back down to the ground [Laughs], but she doesn't. She goes floating over the backyard and past the buildings and the schools and stuff and is absolutely [upside-down] to him in every way." On the liner notes of “Once in a Lifetime: The Best of Talking Heads”, songwriter David Byrne recalled: "I used to know a blissed-out hippie-chick in Baltimore. She once told me that she used to do acid (the drug, not music) and lay down on the field by the Yoo-hoo chocolate soda factory. Flying out of her body, etc etc. It seemed like such a tacky kind of transcendence… but it was real! A new kind of religion being born out of heaps of rusted cars and fast food joints. And this girl was flying above it all, but in it too." The track from their “Little Creatures” LP went to #9 in Ireland, #10 in Australia, #16 in New Zealand, #17 in the UK, #31 in the Netherlands, and #54 in the US. #talkingheads, #davidbyrne, #andshewas, #80smusic, #dailyrockhistory, #tinaweymouth, #chrisfrantz, #littlecreatures, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image She tried to warn everyone in 2001. The men she named were powerful. What followed destroyed her life. Karen Mulder was one of the most famous models in the world—Versace, Dior, Chanel, a Victoria’s Secret Angel. Then she went on French TV and accused top fashion executives of rape, abuse, and trafficking. She named names. The interview never aired. The footage disappeared. Within hours, her credibility was erased. She was committed to a psychiatric hospital. Her career was over. The men she accused kept working. Years later, those same men were exposed—linked to Epstein, accused by dozens of women, arrested, or dead in prison. Karen Mulder was not protected. She was silenced. She wasn’t crazy. She was early. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image The original manuscript of Jack Kerouac's classic 1957 novel "On the Road" is about to be sold at auction — where it's expected to fetch as much as $4 million. Typed out over a feverish three-week period in April 1951, this draft was created on one continuous scroll measuring 121 feet long. Because he could type extremely quickly and hated having to pause to load new pages into his typewriter, Kerouac always liked to use long scrolls that wouldn't slow him down. Likewise, this manuscript pauses for neither paragraph breaks nor chapter titles, instead presenting its epic tale of Beat Generation misadventures in one unbroken stream. This draft even uses the characters' original names — taken straight from the real-life writers and artists that inspired the novel's legendary exploits — before the publisher insisted on changing them. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: MOVIES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image Quadrophenia was the movie that captured a generation filmed in Brighton & London 1979 The cast -Phil Daniels as Jimmy Cooper · Leslie Ash as Steph · Toyah Wilcox Philip Davis as Chalky · Mark Wingett as Dave · Sting as Ace Face · Ray Winstone as Kevin Herriot, image It was the perfect snapshot of a movement, an almost cult-like lifestyle, and the city that saw it all happens. As the years pass by, the scenes of Quadrophenia pass further into folklore; the film is now over 41 years old and the people it explored will be approaching their 80s. image The film was based on an album by The Who of the same name, a synth-heavy rock opera that resonated so much with Britain's youth that it sparked a revival of mod culture The film (like the album) is set in 1965 at the zenith of mod culture in England. image It explores the life of Jimmy Cooper, a young mod in London who yearns to escape the shackles of his dull life as a post room boy living with his parents. Jimmy, played by a young Phil Daniels, finds his only escape through the mod lifestyle of drugs, partying, and - most importantly - scooters.
