George Harrison owned a distinctive black Porsche 924 Carrera GT, a car he loved and intended to keep, often seen in photos as part of his extensive Porsche collection alongside his 930 Turbo and 928S, highlighting his deep passion for the brand.
A very early recipient of the 928 S was George Harrison, one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century, firstly as a member of the Beatles, and later for his solo work. Away from his life as one of the greatest rockstars of all time, one of Harrisonโs biggest passions was cars. Harrison saw himself as a driver and not a collector, so he did not maintain a large collection but carefully chose and specified cars he intended to use regularly, the most famous of which being his Aubergine McLaren F1.
Notably, it was Porsche's inaugural production model powered by a V8 engine located at the front, and it achieved remarkable top speeds, earning recognition upon its 1978 release by winning the European Car of the Year award. The Autocar described it as a "super car" in 1978.
The Porsche 928, produced from 1978 to 1995, is a grand tourer that blends performance with luxury. Featuring a distinctive coupe design, it was initially designed as a successor to the 911. The 928 is known for its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and a powerful V8 engine, delivering impressive acceleration and handling.
With a spacious and comfortable interior, it offers modern features for its time, making it suitable for long-distance drives. Celebrating the life of Telly Savalas! Aristotelis "Telly" Savalas (January 21, 1922 โ January 22, 1994) was a Greek American actor. Noted for his bald head and deep, resonant voice, he is perhaps best known for portraying Lt. Theo Kojak on the crime drama series Kojak (1973โ1978) and James Bond archvillain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the film On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969).
Savalas' other roles include Birdman of Alcatraz (1962), The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), Battle of the Bulge (1965), The Dirty Dozen (1967), Kelly's Heroes (1970), Horror Express (1972), Lisa and the Devil (1974), and Escape to Athena (1979). For Birdman of Alcatraz, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Savalas died on January 22, 1994, of complications of prostate and bladder cancer at the Sheraton-Universal Hotel in Universal City, California, the day after his 72nd birthday.

Here's a 1954 Fiat 8V Berlinetta by Vignale.
Alberto Vignale wanted to exhibit the Fiat 8V at the Paris Motor Show in 1954, but he was unable to finish it in time.
In all ten Fiat 8Vs were built by him.
It had a light, aluminum body - 1,000kg less than the original Fiat with a steel body - and the good performance of the two-liter, 8V (or "Otto Vu" in Italian) engine which developed 127hp at 6,600rpm.
It is named after the peculiar 70ยบ V8 engine which takes up little space in the engine bay.
Since Fiat outsourced many 8V bodies to the Italian design houses, no two cars are alike and each has a unique style.
The Turin coupรฉ continued to race until 1959.

On this day in 2022, American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor Meat Loaf (Marvin Lee Aday) died aged 74.
While an official, specific cause of death was not publicly released by his family, it was reported that he became seriously ill with COVID-19 shortly before his death. His record-breaking 1978 album Bat Out Of Hell spent 457 weeks on the UK album chart.
His Bat Out of Hell trilogy of albums (consisting of Bat Out of Hell, Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell, and Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose) has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide, (his first album stayed on the charts for over nine years).
Meat Loaf was actually the backup choice to play the iconic "Bluto" Blutarsky in Animal House; the role was written for John Belushi, but Meat Loaf was on standby in case Belushi's Saturday Night Live schedule interfered with filming, though Belushi ultimately took the part and delivered the legendary performance.
In late 1973, Meat Loaf was cast in the original L.A. Roxy cast of The Rocky Horror Show, playing the parts of both Eddie and Dr. Scott.
The success of the musical led to the filming of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in which Meat Loaf played only Eddie.

The legendary singer-songwriter Janis Joplin was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on this day in 1943 (January 19)
One of the most successful and widely known rock stars of her era, she made an indelible impact on the music world with her powerful bluesy, mezzo-soprano vocals and "electric" stage presence.
Five singles by Joplin reached the Billboard Hot 100, including a cover of the Kris Kristofferson song "Me and Bobby McGee", which reached #1 in March 1971.
Joplin famously performed at the iconic music festival Woodstock at 2am, after waiting for hours to take the stage.
Pete Townshend, who performed with the Who later in the same morning after Joplin finished, witnessed her performance and said the following in his 2012 memoir: "She had been amazing at Monterey, but tonight she wasn't at her best, due, probably, to the long delay, and probably, too, to the amount of booze and heroin she'd consumed while she waited. But even Janis on an off-night was incredible."
Joplin died of a heroin overdose, aged just 27, only 16 days after the death of Jimi Hendrix which was also drug related, and who was also 27.
She was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
The film โThe Roseโ (1979) is loosely based on Joplin's life. Originally planned to be titled PearlโJoplin's nickname and the title of her last albumโthe film was fictionalized after her family declined to allow the producers the rights to her story.
Bette Midler earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film.
Rolling Stone ranked Joplin #46 on its 2004 list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and #28 on its 2008 list of 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
She remains one of the top-selling musicians in the United States.

On this day in 1978, Kate Bush released the single โWuthering Heightsโ (January 20)
Kate Bushโs big break was when Pink Floydโs David Gilmour was given a demo tape by a mutual friend of the family, that Kate recorded while she was still attending a Catholic girls' school in Abbey Wood in southeast London.
Gilmour was moved to help the 16-year-old record a professional demo tape which secured her a deal with EMI, and her prodigious talent took over from thereโฆ
Iโm not sure whatโs more impressive, the fact that she wrote โWuthering Heightsโ aged just 18, or that she recorded the vocal track in only one take....
โWuthering Heightsโ was of course based on the famous Emily Brontรซ novel, and the single went all the way to #1 in the UK, and stayed at the top for a month.
With it, Kate Bush became the first female artist to have an entirely self-penned #1 hit in the UK.
"Wuthering Heights" also spent three weeks at #1 in Australia, five weeks at #1 in New Zealand, and also topped the charts in Ireland and Portugal.
Her debut single from her debut album โThe Kick Insideโ also reached the Top 10 in Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland, as well as the Top 20 in Austria and West Germany.
The guitar solo is played by the talented Ian Bairnson (Pilot, The Alan Parsons Project), who allegedly played the solo with a broken arm. The engineer, Jon Kelly, said he regretted not placing the iconic solo louder in the mix.
Fun fact: Kate Bush and Emily Brontรซ were both born on 30 July, Bush in 1958 and Brontรซ in 1818, 140 years apart.
A hauntingly beautiful and unique song....
One of the two clips for the song has inspired The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever, which is an annual event held at locations around the world where participants recreate the โred dressโ music video for โWuthering Heights".
