🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image “Meaning and morality of One's life come from within oneself. Healthy, strong individuals seek self expansion by experimenting and by living dangerously. Life consists of an infinite number of possibilities and the healthy person explores as many of them as posible. Religions that teach pity, self-contempt, humility, self-restraint and guilt are incorrect. The good life is ever changing, challenging, devoid of regret, intense, creative and risky.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE On this day in 1980, the Ian Dury & The Blockheads single “I Want To Be Straight” debuted on the Australian charts at #97 (December 1) I'm Charley, you know... I'm Norman pleased to meet you! I'm Mickey, hello! Wilko.... I'm Johnny, how are you doing? All reet? Champion... My name....is David, And I'm Ian, and, guess what?........ The Blockheads had undergone a significant personnel change since their 1979 album, “Do It Yourself”. Chaz Jankel, who played keyboards and co-wrote most of that album's songs, had left in the wake of a stressful tour. Jankel's place on guitar was taken by Wilko Johnson of Dr. Feelgood. Johnson had considered retiring from the music business until he was asked by sax player Davey Payne and Dury, old friends from their pub rock days, to join the Blockheads. The new-line up first appeared on the "I Want To Be Straight" single, which was released before the album “Laughter” in 1980. #iandury, #ianduryandtheblockheads, #blockheads, #iwanttobestraight, #postpunk, #newwave, #80smusic, #wilco, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE On this day in 1986, the Crowded House single “Don’t Dream It’s Over” debuted on the Australian charts (December 1) The song from their self-titled debut studio album, written by Neil Finn, has cemented itself to many as one of the most emotive and meaningful ballads in modern rock history. "Don't Dream It's Over" became the band's biggest international hit, reaching #1 in Canada, #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, #5 in the Netherlands, and #6 in Norway and Belgium, and #13 in Germany. Closer to home, it peaked at #1 in New Zealand and #8 in Australia. In May 2001, the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) ranked "Don't Dream It's Over" second on its list of the Top 100 New Zealand songs of all time and seventh on its list of the Top 100 Australian songs of all time. In January 2018, as part of Triple M's "Ozzest 100", the 'most Australian' songs of all time, "Don't Dream Its Over" was ranked #65. The B-side was "That's What I Call Love" written by Neil Finn and Paul Hester, and appropriately “Don’t Dream It’s Over” was the last song Paul Hester ever played live with Crowded House. #crowdedhouse, #dontdreamitsover, #neilfinn, #PaulHester, #australianmusic, #nickseymour, #TripleM, #apra, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image The live recording is excellent… This week in 1980, the REO Speedwagon single “Keep On Loving You” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #88 (November 29) Written by Kevin Cronin, and featuring the brilliant guitar work of Gary Richrath, the song first appeared on REO Speedwagon's 1980 album “Hi Infidelity”. It was the first REO Speedwagon single to break the top 50 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and also went to #2 in Canada, #3 in Australia and South Africa, #4 in Switzerland, #6 in Ireland, #7 in the UK and #9 in the Netherlands. Kevin Cronin recalls: “I walked into rehearsal and sat down at the piano, which I rarely do because I’m a guitar player, and started playing "Keep on Loving You." ... And the guys in the band looked at me like I was from another planet. They were like, "What are you...?" because we were all bringing in songs for this record we were going to make and they looked at me like I was crazy. And I’m like, "Dude, this song really means a lot to me." [And they said] "So, dude, that’s not an REO Speedwagon song." And I kind of was like, "You know what? I’m the main songwriter for REO Speedwagon, so if I write a song, it’s an REO Speedwagon song. It’s the band's job to turn it into an REO Speedwagon song." I was so passionate about this song. Everyone kind of got it and sure enough, Gary [Richrath] went over, plugged in his guitar and started playing power chords to this little love song I wrote. The next thing we knew, it was a #1 record and everyone was calling it a power ballad and acted like we had this strategy for success that made this song happen when really it was just an accident!” #REOSpeedwagon, #keeponlovingyou, #KevinCronin, #garyrichrath, #hiinfidelity, #80smusic, #80srock, #rockmusic, #thisdayinrock, #rockhistory, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE “Lady”: This week in 1975, the Supertramp LP “Crisis? What Crisis?” was released (November 28) As with most Supertramp albums, Rick Davies' keyboard work, Roger Hodgson's vocals and multi-instrumentation, and John Helliwell's saxophone are highlights. Hodgson was initially unhappy with it, describing it as a rushed job with none of the cohesion of “Crime of the Century”, but retrospectively in the mid-80s he had a change of heart, calling it his favourite Supertramp album. Both the title and the concept of the classic album cover art were conceived by Rick Davies, as John Helliwell recounted: "It was Rick that came up with the name Crisis? What Crisis? and one day, when we were sitting around Scorpio Studio, he came in with this sketch of a guy in a deck chair under an umbrella with all this chaos going on around him." Supertramp’s fourth studio album made the Top 20 in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Canada, and the Netherlands. #supertramp, #CrimeOfTheCentury, #lady, #classicalbum, #classicrock, #70smusic, #progressiverock, #progrock, #rickdavies, #rogerhodgson, #70srock, #thisdayinrock, #rockhistory, #rockmusic, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE Fleetwood Mac singer, songwriter, and keyboard player Christine McVie passed away on this day in 2022 (November 30) She was 79. All good teams need their “glue guy”; the person who isn’t out front doing the starry stuff, but in the background doing the work, holding it all together. Christine McVie was that with Fleetwood Mac… They had a constellation of stars who were always in the spotlight, in a band always seemingly threatening to implode and tear itself apart; while all the time, just off to the side, just out of the limelight, holding it all together was Christine McVie… Christine was responsible for writing some of the band’s biggest hits and much loved songs like “Don’t Stop”, “You Make Loving Fun”, “Hold Me”, “Say You Love Me”, “Songbird”, “Everywhere”, and “Little Lies”. In fact, on Fleetwood Mac’s “Greatest Hits” anthology, released in 1988, which sold more than eight million copies: She either wrote or co-wrote half of its 16 tracks. Every Fleetwood Mac fan has their favourite Christine McVie song! In just half an hour, she wrote one of the band’s most beloved songs, “Songbird,” the emotional ballad that for years served as the band’s closing encore in concert. In 2019 Mick Fleetwood, told New Musical Express that “Songbird” is the piece he wanted played at his funeral, “to send me off fluttering.” McVie was awarded the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors' Gold Badge of Merit in 2006, and in 1998 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with former husband John McVie as part of Fleetwood Mac… R.I.P.
