🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image “Don’t Stop Me Now” from the album: image On this day in 1978, the Queen LP “Jazz” debuted on the UK Albums Chart at #28 (November 25) Again, it was Queen at their most flamboyant, diving in head-first to a variety of musical styles and genres, as fans of their LPs had come to expect. The album was anchored by the hits “Bicycle Race”, “Fat-Bottomed Girls”, and “Don’t Stop Me Now”. In 2006, Jim DeRogatis of the Chicago Sun-Times included it in his list of "The Great Albums," describing it as "a genre-hopping tour of diverse musical styles" and concluded that "What ultimately keeps me coming back to the album, however, is that ambiguous sexual energy running through all 13 tracks; the fact that each of them boasts more hooks than some bands have on an entire album, and the inviting sonic density of it all." Rolling Stone subsequently featured it on their list of “10 Classic Albums Rolling Stone Initially Panned”, indicating they now regarded the album as a "classic”, and poked fun at their original reviewer that bagged the album. “Jazz” went to #2 in the UK, #3 in the Netherlands, #5 in Germany, #6 in the US, Norway and Sweden, #7 in France, #8 in Austria, #13 in Canada, and #15 in Australia. #queen, #fatbottomedgirls, #bicyclerace, #jazz, #freddiemercury, #brianmay, #rogertaylor, #johndeacon, #70smusic, #dontstopmenow, #thisdayinrock, #rockhistory, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image Annie Jones was born in 1865 in Virginia with noticeable facial hair, a condition likely caused by hirsutism. image Her parents quickly turned her unusual appearance into a business opportunity, introducing her to P. T. Barnum’s New York exhibition before she was even one year old under the name “The Infant Esau.” image As she grew older, she became one of Barnum’s most popular acts, known as “The Bearded Lady,” often performing in elegant clothing and playing the mandolin to highlight both her femininity and her condition. image Despite her fame, her life was marked by hardship, including early marriages, personal loss, and constant public scrutiny. image In her later years, she spoke out against the word “freak” used for performers like her, but she passed away at only 37 from tuberculosis, remembered mostly for the circus life that defined her from childhood. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image image Back to Back is the sixteenth studio album by British rock band Status Quo and released in November 25, 1983 by Vertigo Records. Four the first time in the group's history, it featured four singles, "Ol' Rag Blues" (highest position No. 9), "A Mess of Blues", originally a hit for Elvis Presley (No. 15), "Marguerita Time" (No. 3), and "Going Down Town Tonight" (which reached No. 20 in a different, re-recorded version to the album version). The album entered the UK chart at its highest position of No. 9. image Singles from Back to Back 1. "Ol' Rag Blues" Released: 2 September 1983 2. "A Mess of Blues" Released: 28 October 1983 3. "Marguerita Time" Released: 2 December 1983 4. "Going Down Town Tonight" Released: 11 May 1984 It was the last album to feature original bass guitarist Alan Lancaster, as well as drummer Pete Kircher. Lancaster co-wrote the first single, "Ol' Rag Blues", with Keith Lamb, lead singer of British bands The Kase, Sleepy Talk and Mr. Toad, and founder and lead singer of Australia's successful glam rock band Hush. Lancaster was Angeles when the production company declined to release the version featuring his lead vocal (which has since8 niente made available as a bonus track on the 2006 remastered reissue), in preferenze to that featuring the voice of Francis Rossi. He also made no secret of his dislike of "Marguerita Time", which he thought was too pop-orientated for the group. When they appeared on BBC's Top of the Pops to mime to the single, his place was taken by Jim Lea of Slade, who were also on the programme was week. The Top of the Pops performance was also notable for Rick Parfitt falling into Pete Kircher's drum set near the end of the song while the song kept playing. On the DVD Hello Quo, Parfitt claims that he had planned this action, although many people thought he was drunk. On the same DVD, Alan Lancaster also said that he wasn't so concerned with "Marguerita Time" as he was with "Going Down Town Tonight", which - according to him - was not a Sratus Quo recording and featured no Status Quo musicians apart from Francis Rossi. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image The image displays a 19th-century apparatus for an "electric bath" or galvanic bath, a form of electrotherapy. The equipment was produced by W.A. Hirschmann in Berlin. The illustration shows a metal bathtub equipped with internal electrodes and a separate control table with electrical instruments. This device was historically used in alternative medicine, such as in the Bilz Sanatorium, as a treatment for ailments like rheumatism and painful joints. The treatment involved passing an electric current through the water and the patient's body for therapeutic purposes. The baths were thought to stimulate organ function, improve circulation, and alleviate pain by using a mild direct electric current in warm water. The equipment, often with porcelain tubs to isolate the patient from an earth connection, was designed to apply a current without the risk of electric shock. The W.A. Hirschmann electric bath apparatus was a product of its time, capitalizing on the Victorian fascination with electricity. It was considered effective by its contemporary users but did not have real, verifiable health benefits that hold up to modern scientific scrutiny. The primary "benefit" of these treatments was likely the powerful placebo effect. Patients believed in the "miraculous" power of electricity, which could lead to perceived improvements in symptoms, especially for conditions with a strong psychological component like hysteria and neurasthenia. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image Perched on Ternate’s eastern coast, Fort Tolukko is a compact yet historically rich fortress with a storied past. Constructed in 1522, it has witnessed the rise and fall of multiple colonial powers, including the Portuguese, Dutch, British, and Spanish, as well as the native Ternate Sultanate. While its distinctive phallic shape has sparked curiosity, experts attribute this design to the fort’s strategic adaptation to the rugged terrain rather than symbolic intent. Today, Fort Tolukko stands as a testament to Ternate’s turbulent colonial history, offering visitors a glimpse into its layered past. Its well-preserved structure and scenic coastal views make it a fascinating stop for history enthusiasts and travelers alike. Whether exploring its battlements or soaking in the panoramic vistas, the fort remains a captivating relic of Indonesia’s colonial era. A visit to Fort Tolukko is a journey through time, blending architectural intrigue with the echoes of bygone conflicts. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- Click on the link below to watch THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image “Space Oddity” live: This week in 1972, the David Bowie LP “Space Oddity” debuted on the UK Albums Chart at #31 (November 25) For a 1967 promotional film, Bowie wrote a new song, titled "Space Oddity", a tale about a fictional astronaut called Major Tom. The song earned Bowie a contract with Mercury Records, who agreed to finance production of a new album. Unfortunately to a lack of promotion, this second “David Bowie” album was also a commercial failure, despite earning some positive reviews from music critics. Despite Bowie being named 1969's Best Newcomer in a readers' poll for Music Now! and "Space Oddity" being named record of the year by Penny Valentine of Disc and Music Echo, David Bowie barely sold over 5,000 copies by March 1970. Following this 1972 reissue with RCA however, the album finally managed to chart, peaking at #21 in Australia, and #17 on the UK Albums Chart, remaining on the chart for 42 weeks. Early in 1973, the album peaked at #8 in Spain, #13 in Canada, and #16 on the US Billboard chart, remaining on the chart for 36 weeks. “Space Oddity” of course went on to be an enduring classic, and was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll". #davidbowie, #classicalbum, #60smusic, #spaceoddity, #60srock, #thisdayinrock, #rockmusic, #dailyrockhistory, #onthisday, #rockmusic, #rockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #thisdayinrock "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE On this day in 1976, the Sex Pistols released the single “Anarchy in the UK” (November 26) “Rrrrright!…..now!…..ahahahahahaha!….” Without question “Anarchy in the UK” was a song that shook up the music world, and rocked the social fabric of a nation. Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren called the song "a call to arms to the kids who believe that rock and roll was taken away from them. It's a statement of self rule, of ultimate independence." Originally issued in a plain black sleeve, the single was the only Sex Pistols recording released by EMI, and reached #38 on the UK Singles Chart before EMI dropped the group on 6 January 1977. “Anarchy in the U.K." is #56 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and is included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. #sexpistols, #punk, #punkrock, #punkrockmusic, #anarchyintheuk, #johnnyrotten, #sidvicious, #paulcook, #stevejones, #glenmatlock, #nevermindthebollocks, #rockandrollhalloffame "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image On this day in 1972, the Seals & Croft’s single “Summer Breeze” peaked on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #6 (November 25) Seals & Croft’s’ first and biggest hit became one of the iconic songs of the early 70s era. The title track of the soft-rock duo’s fourth studio album peaked at #6 in Canada and the US, #14 in New Zealand, and #16 in Australia. In 1975, Jim Seals told Melody Maker that "Summer Breeze" was "A very simple song about a man coming home from work and hearing the dog barking and things like that, and to a lot of people the song's about looking for security. Our meaning goes further than that, for a prison can be the prison of self and a person can become insecure and paranoid if he doesn't have a direction in his personal life." Dash Crofts told Inside Musicast he made an impromptu decision to use a toy piano on the melody line because he happened to spot one in the studio (you can hear it sitting in behind the brass riff) He couldn't get a hold of anybody to give him permission to use the instrument, but it was already in tune and ready to go, so he couldn't resist borrowing it anyway. #sealsandcrofts, #summerbreeze, #70smusic, #softrock, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday, #jimseals, #dashcrofts, #easylistening, #yachtrock, #folkrock "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image On this day in 1972, the David Bowie single “The Jean Genie” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #90 (November 25) "The Jean Genie" originated on the Ziggy Stardust Tour as an impromptu jam they called "Bussin'", on the tour bus between the first two concerts in Cleveland and Memphis, when Mick Ronson began playing the Bo Diddley-inspired guitar riff on his new Les Paul. Bowie later in the 1990s described the song as "a smorgasbord of imagined America" and "my first New York song”, which he said he wrote in American actress, model and publicist Cyrinda Foxe’s apartment “for her amusement”. The subject matter was inspired in part by Bowie's friend Iggy Pop or, in Bowie's own words, "an Iggy-type character... it wasn't actually Iggy." The line "He's so simple minded, he can't drive his module" later gave the band Simple Minds their name. The song was recorded really quickly, as Def Leppard's Joe Elliott recalled: “I had a really great conversation with [bass player] Trevor Bolder. I said, 'You remember when you were doing The Jean Genie?' He said, 'No. We did it in an hour and a half.'" Some controversy arose in the UK when fellow RCA act the Sweet issued the song "Block Buster!", utilising a riff very similar to "The Jean Genie". The Sweet's single, written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, and recorded and released slightly later than Bowie's song, made #1 in the UK charts and #73 on the US charts while "The Jean Genie" was still in the UK Top 10. All parties maintained that the similarity was, in Nicky Chinn's words, "absolute coincidence". Chinn described a meeting about the issue, where he recalled that Bowie “looked at me completely deadpan and said 'C** t!’ And then he got up and gave me a hug and said, 'Congratulations...'" “Jean Genie” went all the way to #2 in the UK, #3 in Ireland, #5 in the Netherlands, #7 in Belgium, #8 in Spain, #18 in Australia, #22 in France, #71 in the US, and #75 in Canada. #davidbowie, #TheJeanGenie, #jeangenie, #ziggystardust, #classicrock, #mickronson, #70srock, #70smusic, #nickychinn, #iggypop, #trevorbolder, #classicrock, #rockmusic, #rockhistory, #thisdayinrock, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image 158 Years Ago This December The Largest Mass Hanging Execution in US History Occurred At The Hand of The Evil President Abraham Lincoln The execution was signed off by President Abraham Lincoln the day after Christmas At 10:00 am on December 26th 1862, 38 innocent Natives of the Dakota Sioux prisoners were led to a large hanging scaffold specially constructed for their execution. One Dakota sentenced to hang was given a reprieve at the last minute. An estimated 4,000 spectators crammed the streets of Mankato Minnesota and surrounding land to witness this horrific event that was glorified by the US Government. The native people were allowed reservations which was their own sovereign lands and nation; the United States has made agreements through treaty agreements that allowed the native people to utilize the land as their own. After months of making these treaty agreements, the USA allowed hunters onto tribal lands where they were met with armed natives. They were either removed from tribal lands or killed by the natives for trespassing and this is the reason Lincoln hung 38 Dakota, to set an example for others who killed trespassers on their lands. When we were younger in grade school we were taught lies about the US Government and bigger lies about their leaders like President Lincoln and we’re taught Lincoln was the greatest president who ever lived. Truth is, the government wrote their own narrative that they taught to the children and it was nothing but lies that continue to be taught in schools today.
