🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- No, Barcelona’s Sagrada Família is not almost finished. Despite some headlines saying otherwise, it will still be many, many years before Antoni Gaudí’s Modernista masterpiece is truly complete. However, the otherworldly basilica is nearing a major construction milestone. June 10, 2026 — the centenary of Gaudí’s death — is the deadline builders have given themselves to complete the Sagrada Família’s central Jesus Tower (the last of its 18 towers still under construction). When this happens, the church will finally shed much of its scaffolding, which has long dominated its roofline. This is why some are saying the church will soon be “finished.” But in reality, the Sagrada Família still has a long way to go. Elements like the baptistry, Chapel of the Assumption, and Glory Façade remain works in progress — and Gaudí’s original hope for a grand esplanade leading up to the entrance hasn’t even been started. That said, completing the Jesus Tower is a huge achievement that's worth celebrating. So if you visit Sagrada Família after June 10, 2026, you’ll still encounter some work zones and scaffolding... but no longer will you have to use your imagination to picture the basilica’s iconic towers.
