Nostr growth feels stalled. We keep hearing there are only XX,000 users and that number hasn’t moved much. Lets take a step back and remember where we were 3 years ago. All the Nostr clients were dogshit compared to where they are today. Sure, it was new and exciting, but it kinda sucked. The fact that this turned into good clients and a robust base of adamant users who aren’t fucking going back is amazing. Nostr was never going to take over legacy social media overnight. We want it to, just like we want Bitcoin price action to stop being boring, but revolutionary technologies take time. It’s incredible that we are where we are. Nostr is here to stay, and so are we.

Getting people to try out Nostr isn't as much of a problem as getting them to stay. How do we fix this?

For creators, moving your social presence to Nostr is a bet on the future. Owning your content, identity, and experience is powerful. The more people who see that, the more will come here. It’s not going away. Yet solely existing on Nostr is not enough. The upside and better experience make it worth building here. There just aren’t enough people here yet to fund your life. If you’re betting on Nostr, it is incumbent upon you to go out into the world and bring people over. Nostr doesn’t fail without that. It just grows slower and is less useful for you as a creator if fewer people are here. Nostr only is awesome. Nostr focused is more effective.

Your post to reply ratio says everything about how you use Nostr. If you only post and wait for people to find you, you are living in the fiat world. There's no central algorithm to carry your posts to strangers. The only way people discover your work is if you show up for them first. It's this beautiful forcing function for you to go out and make real connections. Maybe this is why the vibe on Nostr is so much different.

Growing an account on Nostr is a manual process. There's no algo that consistently displays your posts to people who don't follow you. Everything on Nostr is earned. Here's what you should do: 1) ENGAGE: No one is going to see your posts when you have a small account. To get people to notice you without an algo, you need to comment on their posts. Engagement is low for most people, so your effort in this will go further than on other platforms. 2) ZAPVERTIZE: You could run a big campaign, but you find success if you use your zap message to make it clear what you do. Give people a reason to click on your profile. Your Zap Message is more visible than any comment. If you're the top zap, your message will be seen by everyone who sees that post on some clients. Hunt for low cost, valuable opportunities here. 3) SPONSOR AN INFLUENCER: There are have's and have not's when it comes to reach on Nostr without as much middle ground or social mobility. If you are a business, I recommend sending product to someone with a bigger reach to repost your posts. Value for Value and Repost Culture are core to Nostr and there's no Algo score that you would be disrupting for them. Getting reposted by a big account consistently will take you far. Otherwise the advice is the same for most social media growth. There's no substitute for consistent content production. There are hacks, but overnight success doesn't exist on Nostr. The beauty is that the results from all the work you put in, you own.
