Days ago, Vitalik praised Bitcoin’s simplicity and Core removed Op_Return limits. 🚩🚩🚩

Reasons for Bitcoin miners and non-miners running their own full nodes: Promote quality control of blocks and relay channels. Promote a high quality difficulty signal. Promote low cost full nodes For miners, create and optimize your own block template and decentralize block construction to resist tx censorship at larger pools that control the block template. Verify incoming/outgoing Bitcoin txs and wallet balances.

Bitcoin Soft Forks like SegWit and Taproot have created a Bailey for SpamScammers that gets bigger with each Soft Fork. These soft forks have allowed Bad Faith Bitcoin users to run a highly effective Motte and Bailey Fallacy attack on Bitcoin’s Development trajectory. 🇺🇸🦅🫡

If you’re fine with Spam on Bitcoin, then why don’t you just remove all the Op_Return limits, remove all the other spam filters, and formalize all the changes with a hard fork. I’m sure a bunch of people will follow you to the Bitcoin Spammers’ Paradise chain. 🤡

The Bitcoin Witness Discount is not the “perfect” change the SegWit/Lightning/Taproot stans want you to think it is. It was a way to make Bitcoin blocks bigger without a hard fork. We played ourselves back in 2017… and Bitcoin still has mostly withstood our stupid impatience.

Fact checks welcome: Lightning could have been enabled without the Witness Discount because LN only required solving tx malleability by segregating witness data. Proponents of the witness discount say it was supposed to help mitigate UTXO bloat and make things easier for Lightning, but it obviously also opened up Bitcoin to more data storage bloat afaict because it was an effective block size increase.

Bitcoiners in 2017: Bitcoin will absolutely never “scale” unless we change it. Bitcoin Bombadil in 2025: Bitcoin might never scale if we keep changing it. Godspeed. 🇺🇸🦅🫡
