I just installed @Amber via F-Droid, and it seems really nice so far! Finally a mobile solution to store my nsec in one place securely. 🀝 As a bonus it can do nsecbunker, which I've setup but not tried yet. View quoted note β†’

Hey @KernelKind, I tried to install notedeck for Windows 11 based on the latest version on the website, and I'm seeing this error. Is there any workaround? Thanks! image

Seems after about an hour or two, everything fixed itself and all my Follows are back, phew! Oddly enough, all the clients were showing the same 0 Following, so it wasn't just one client being the issue. And I was going in via multiple relays. nostr.watch was also showing all relays offline, and multiple clients I tried couldn't load any feeds. I wonder if nostr hit a blip somehow... which would be concerning considering it's decentralized. At least I haven't lost my following list! πŸ˜»πŸ™ View quoted note β†’

I'm not sure what happened, but one of these clients I've been testing just deleted my entire Following list... fucking great. 😾 I really have to stop messing around with web clients and just settle on one. But there's so much choice, and a lot of them bug out after a while.

hey @Vitor Pamplona is there somewhere that explains the difference between all follows, all user follows and default follow list? thanks!

Hey frenpais! An update on my public #relay: I've disabled the requirement to NIP-05 verify, so anyone can use it even without a NIP-05! I've also coded a spam and abuse filter proxy that sits in front of #nostr relays, that will check for blacklisted pubkeys, IPs and blocked phrases. Any spammers will be denied access. I had to do this to ensure free and fair service to legitimate nostr users. If you abuse the relay you will be shitcanned! πŸ˜ΌπŸ’© wss://nostr.superfriends.online View quoted note β†’

wow! This is really a neat idea! It creates an anonymous one-time use account to post your spicy takes. 😹🌢️ View quoted note β†’

Returning to #nostr after a while, I went digging into the usage stats. While it's hard to get definitive numbers, over the past 6 months there is a slow grind downward in active users. However it's still around 14K users DAU which is pretty decent. https://stats.nostr.band/#daily_active_users I honestly feel like there's strill a stigma that nostr is something for BTC maxis only. It felt true when I first joined a few years ago (2023), and it still feels true today when I see/hear people commenting about nostr elsewhere, or look around the relay feeds. It makes me wonder if wider adoption is held back by this idea, or whether it's just *too niche* a technology to expect normies to pick up and use. It's not the same, but activitypub/fediverse (aka Mastodon) has faced similar challenges IMHO. The users are highly opinionated on certain topics, and I can't shake the feeling that their uptake is held back not by the tech but by the users' vocal opinion on various things (i.e., crypto is horrible, AI is terrible, certain political views chastised, etc..) You end up with a very similar crowd of shared opinion as a result, and others don't feel welcome and worse, are actively pushed out. Again, I'm not saying nostr is like this, but there's a similar challenge of adoption. Thinking back to my own experience when starting to use nostr, it felt very easy to get signed up and start consuming/posting. There's good ecosystem choice in clients. The issues are things like NIP-05 verification or creating/linking up lightning wallets; it starts getting more complicated and it's not easy for the regular user to do. I guess I'm left with the thought that adoption is a function of ease: both technical and behavioural. Is it easy to get setup? Is it easy to feel welcome no matter who I am? image

Greetings frenpais! In the summer of 2023, I started hosting a public #nostr #relay. Welp, it's been a while, and I'm just coming back to nostr after a long hiatus. But the relay is now updated and back online! It supports most NIPs and yesterday I've enabled support for NIP-42 for authenticated DMs. wss://nostr.superfriends.online View quoted note β†’

hello everyone! I'm trying to get back onto nostr and have realised my alby wallet is long dead. Is there a simple & free way to setup a lightning wallet like a year or two ago, or do I need to host my own now? Thanks! πŸ™ I'm also going to bring my relay back online. Updating as we speak!

Hey folks, I've just done performance tuning & increased limits on the public #nostr #relay. Feel free to use it (requires NIP-05 verification)! wss://nostr.superfriends.online image

Heya folks! My public #relay nostr.superfriends.online is now back online! We had a few days offline due to the disk being absolutely chock full (as in zero bytes free). πŸ’ΎπŸ™€ I've increased the hosting capacity and migrated the #nostr database to a dedicated block storage device, which will be more scalable in the future. Apologies for the downtime and thanks for your patience!

Oh, one change was made to our #nostr #relay wss://nostr.superfriends.online today, in order to curtail some abusive clients and spam: You now need to be NIP-05 verified in your profile to use the relay! I apologise, ideally I don't like to place barriers to usage, especially for the noobs. But given the amount of database growth and spamming, it is needed. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜Ύ image
