Approximately $77M has been sucked out of the medical industrial complex and put into the pockets of our members since inception.

An apology from our CEO (andyjschoonover) :
Hey Crowd,
I totally whiffed and I’m sorry.
Recently, we released a new version of our crowdfunding emails. Instead of showing the funding details directly in the email, we started sending members to the app to review them there.
The reason behind the change was simple: we needed to start sending some members two crowdfunding requests per month instead of one, and I didn’t want to clutter your inbox.
But in trying to simplify the experience, I accidentally created a barrier to transparency. It was a doofus move.
It was a mistake. You all let us know about it in our Telegram group and through your Care Advocates. When you speak up, we listen.
Transparency is one of the core principles of CrowdHealth, and by making it harder for you to immediately see the details of what you were funding, I moved us in the wrong direction. As of today, we’ve reverted the emails back so the funding details are once again visible directly in the email.
I also wanted to explain why some members will begin receiving two funding requests in a month.
As CrowdHealth has grown, we’ve seen a significant increase in smaller medical bills. Those smaller bills are often harder to match cleanly against a single member’s monthly contribution amount.
For example, imagine we have a $129 virtual care bill. If a member’s monthly contribution target is around $75, $150, or $225, it can be difficult to fully fund that bill efficiently with just one request. In some situations, the cleanest solution is to split a member’s monthly contribution across two different bills.
Because of that, about 10–20% of members may occasionally receive two funding requests in a given month.
The bad news: you’ll receive two emails and see two separate charges on your bank statement.
The good news: you’ll help two different members that month.
Most importantly, this does NOT mean you’ll be contributing more money overall. The total amount of the two requests combined will still remain within your normal monthly target range ($75 / $150 / $225, plus or minus a few dollars). The amount stays the same but just split across two bills instead of one.
Again, my apologies for the misstep.
We’re building something different together, and that only works if we remain radically transparent with you every step of the way. I’ll make sure we continue to view future changes through that lens.
To good health,
Andy

Woman dies because insurance company rationed care. You don’t have to ration care when prices are low.
The MRI with insurance was probably $4,000.
The MRI cash pay is a few hundred bucks…significantly less than the PT they made her go through to be eligible to get an MRI.
Did you know that we release a monthly transparency file every month? We show you all the bills that were submitted, the status of every bill, what the funds were spent on, and even the complaints! You can find those here:

Monthly transparency reports are released approximately 10-14 days after the end of the month

Is a bill denial a bug, or a feature?
As of this morning the Crowd has funded 41,259 bills.
We just had our 32nd bill that was sent to the Crowd that didn't get funded.
Member had to get a blood test. They went to the local hospital (wrong place to get blood tests). This was not an emergency or a case where the member didn't have options. Paid $771.
There was a location 3 miles away that would have done it for $300. Member could have gotten this info on this location in about 2 minutes on
CrowdZilla - Find Affordable Lab Testing
The bill was still submitted to the community but the community declined to fund.
We love our members and hate when bills don't get funded but the only way to create free markets in healthcare is for people to have easy access to transparent prices AND to treat others money like it is their own.
