🌍 Project Spotlight: Bitcoin Dua 📍 Location: Ghana 🇬🇭 About: Bitcoin Dua is a grassroots Bitcoin circular economy in Agbozume, Ghana. Inspired by El Salvador’s Bitcoin Beach and connected with projects such as Bitcoin Ekasi, it treats Bitcoin as everyday money rather than a trading asset. The work is built on education first. A renovated learning center now hosts Bitcoin classes, coding, robotics, and digital literacy for local youth, including programs like Bitcoin for Juniors. Students, teachers, and residents learn how money works, then earn and spend sats with nearby shops. The team has onboarded around 30 local merchants, turning Bitcoin into a familiar word in the town. Key Objectives: 1. Teach Bitcoin and financial literacy on the ground through the Education Center, school visits, workshops, and youth programs. 2. Grow a working circular economy where people in Agbozume learn, earn, and spend sats with local merchants. 3. Train young people in coding, robotics, and digital skills so they can earn in Bitcoin without leaving the community. 4. Onboard more businesses and make everyday payments in sats practical and trusted. 5. Build lasting community infrastructure, as a hub for youth, recreation, education, and circular-economy use. 🌍 Project Spotlight: Bitcoin Aves 📍Location: Ghana 🇬🇭 About: Bitcoin Aves is a Bitcoin-only grassroots initiative in the farming town of Akatsi, working to turn sound money into something people can actually learn, earn, spend, and live with. The project aims to empower African Youths and build a circular economy in Akatsi, Ghana. Key Objectives: 1. Educate communities on Bitcoin and financial sovereignty through culturally relevant teaching, local-language outreach, workshops, and structured programs. 2. Drive practical everyday adoption by onboarding shops, farmers, and market traders to accept sats and use Bitcoin for real goods and services. 3. Build a sustainable local circular economy where value can be produced, paid, and spent in Bitcoin, including merchant networks, agricultural trade, and community projects. 4. Help individuals understand money, protect their savings from inflation, and take control of their own finances without relying on distant or exclusionary systems. 5. Grow a grassroots Bitcoin community from Akatsi outward by training youth and teachers, hosting meetups, and planting the skills for Bitcoin education to spread across Ghana. 🟠Today’s Watch Party took us right back to the beginning. We watched a video from @Satoshistobitcoin breaking down Bitcoin in simple terms, private keys, seed phrases, nodes, miners, custody, and how all these pieces work together to create a system that doesn’t depend on a central authority. Sometimes, the best way to understand Bitcoin is to go back to the fundamentals. Here are some of our key takeaways: 🔑 Your private keys are what give you control. Bitcoin isn’t stored inside your wallet. Your wallet holds the keys that allow you to authorize transactions. Whoever controls the private keys controls the Bitcoin. 🌱 Your seed phrase is the backup to your wallet. It can be used to generate your wallet’s private keys and recover access to your funds. That makes protecting it extremely important. A seed phrase should never be shared, photographed, or stored carelessly. 🖥️ Nodes verify the rules. Bitcoin nodes independently validate transactions and blocks against Bitcoin’s rules. They don't simply trust miners or another central authority. Anyone can run a node and independently verify what is happening on the network. ⛏️ Miners secure the blockchain. Miners compete to add new blocks to Bitcoin’s blockchain through Proof-of-Work. This makes rewriting Bitcoin’s history increasingly expensive and difficult. 🤝 No single component secures Bitcoin alone. Private keys provide ownership. Wallets help users manage those keys. Nodes verify the rules. Miners provide Proof-of-Work and secure the chain. And users independently verify and transact according to the network’s rules. That combination is what makes Bitcoin so resilient. 🔐 And then there is custody. Understanding Bitcoin is one thing. Understanding how to safely hold it is another. The moment you move from simply buying Bitcoin to taking responsibility for your own keys, concepts like seed phrases, backups, hardware wallets, transaction verification, and operational security become extremely important. This is why Bitcoin education matters. You shouldn't have to be a computer scientist before you can understand what you are actually using. This is also why we built the Free Bitcoin for Beginners Course, to give individuals and communities a structured path to learn Bitcoin from the ground up, using practical lessons designed for complete beginners. And we don't believe organisations should have to build quality Bitcoin education from scratch. 🤝 Partner with us to teach Bitcoin If your organisation already works with a community, university, financial inclusion programme, technology ecosystem, Bitcoin initiative, or educational audience, you can partner with us to bring structured Bitcoin education to your community. Through our educational partnership, organisations can get access to a standardised Bitcoin curriculum, structured learning resources, and an education framework they can integrate into their existing programmes. Instead of starting from zero, you can give your community a clear learning path: Understand Bitcoin → Learn how it works → Learn how to use it → Learn how to secure it. 🌍 Project Spotlight: BitDevs Accra 📍 Location: Accra, Ghana About: BitDevs Accra is Ghana’s technical Bitcoin developer community and part of the global BitDevs network. It brings together developers, researchers, students, and technical enthusiasts who want to go beyond price talk and study how Bitcoin actually works. The group is Bitcoin-only. Meetups typically follow the BitDevs Socratic seminar format: organizers and members curate topics from protocol changes, BIPs, research papers, open-source repositories, and developer tools, then discuss them in an open, question-driven session. Key Objectives: 1. Encourage Bitcoin protocol research and technical learning — Help members move from surface-level Bitcoin knowledge to a working understanding of consensus, transactions, blocks, cryptography, and current protocol debates. 2. Create a consistent space for Bitcoin development discussion — Host regular, Bitcoin-only meetups where developers can review research, challenge ideas, and stay close to what is happening in Bitcoin Core and related software. 3. Support open-source contribution — Give local builders a path from learning to contributing, including project walkthroughs, builder sessions, and connections to programs such as Btrust Builders. 4. Connect Ghanaian developers to the wider Bitcoin network — Link Accra’s technical community with other African BitDevs chapters and the global Bitcoin developer ecosystem. 5. Strengthen Ghana’s Bitcoin developer community — Grow a durable local hub of developers, students, and technical Bitcoiners who can learn together, collaborate, and keep building in Ghana. 🚨 Most organisations already have what it takes to teach Bitcoin: a community, an audience, and trust. What many don’t have is a structured curriculum, and that is where we come in. Our Free Bitcoin for Beginners Course gives organisations a professionally developed resource they can share with their communities, without the time, cost, and effort of building a course from scratch. As an Official Educational Partner, you can integrate quality Bitcoin education into what you already do. Your organisation can: → Give your community a structured path to understanding Bitcoin → Complement workshops, bootcamps, university programmes, and meetups → Help learners understand payments, security, self-custody, and Bitcoin fundamentals → Track registrations and graduates referred through your organisation → Access partnership benefits including branding, certificates, support, marketing collaboration, and course customisation Whether you're a Bitcoin organisation, educator, university, bootcamp, club, media platform, or grassroots community, there's a partnership tier for you. Top 10 Bitcoin Misconceptions VS The Actual Facts!👇🧵 Bitcoin is often misunderstood. Here are 10 common claims about Bitcoin, and a closer look at what is actually true: 1."Bitcoin is anonymous." ❌ Not quite. Bitcoin is pseudonymous. Transactions are recorded on a public blockchain and can be traced, even though wallet addresses aren't automatically linked to real-world identities. 2. "Bitcoin is only used for illegal activities." ❌ False. Bitcoin is used for legitimate purposes including payments, remittances, savings, cross-border transfers, and financial inclusion. Like fiat currencies, it can be misused, but that doesn't define the entire system. 3. "Bitcoin is just a bubble." ❌ This overlooks Bitcoin's underlying technology and growing adoption. Bitcoin has volatility, but it is also being used as a monetary asset, payment network, and long-term savings tool by individuals and institutions. 4. "Bitcoin is controlled by one entity." ❌ Bitcoin is decentralized. Its network is maintained by distributed participants, and no single company or government controls the protocol. 5. "Bitcoin is too complicated for ordinary people." ❌ You don't need to understand every technical detail to use Bitcoin. User-friendly wallets and services are making Bitcoin increasingly accessible to people around the world. 6. "Bitcoin can be hacked." ❌ The Bitcoin protocol itself has not been successfully hacked since its launch. However, exchanges, wallets, and users can be vulnerable to theft and security breaches. Bitcoin's security is not the same as the security of every service built around it. 7. "Bitcoin is bad for the environment." ⚠️ The energy debate is more nuanced. Bitcoin mining does consume significant energy, but miners also use renewable, stranded, and otherwise underutilized energy sources. The environmental impact depends heavily on where and how mining is powered. 8. "Bitcoin has no real-world use." ❌ Bitcoin is already being used for payments, remittances, savings, and cross-border transactions. In parts of Africa, it is also providing an alternative for people facing limited access to traditional financial services. 9."Bitcoin is just a passing fad." ❌ Bitcoin has existed since 2009 and continues to operate globally. Its future is still debated, but its longevity, network effects, adoption, and continued development make it difficult to dismiss as a short-term trend. 10. "Bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme." ❌ A Ponzi scheme requires a fraudulent operator promising returns to investors and using new participants' money to pay earlier ones. Bitcoin has no central operator or guaranteed returns. Its market value is determined by supply, demand, utility, adoption, and speculation. 🔑The takeaway: Bitcoin isn't perfect, and it isn't risk-free. But understanding Bitcoin requires separating legitimate criticism from misconceptions. We've explored these 10 claims in greater detail.
