The BIP-360 proposal officially joins the Bitcoin BIP repository to prepare the network for the potential threats of quantum computing. BIP-360 offers a new type of Bitcoin output called Pay-to-Merkle-Root (P2MR), via a soft fork. It aims to protect against quantum threats by avoiding the exposure of public keys, vulnerable to Shor's algorithm. This targets "long exposure" attacks on the blockchain, inspired by P2TR but without a key spending path. This is a step to strengthen Bitcoin in the face of future quantum computing. #Bitcoin #BIP #quantum

🪢 Bitcoin consensus is managed by Bitcoin full nodes. They are in the world: • ~23,000–25,000 public/reachable full nodes (the visible network health benchmark). • ~70,000–80,000 total active full nodes (broader estimate including private/domestic ones). An attacker controlling more Bitcoin full nodes, for example 100,000 with a malicious version of Bitcoin full nodes, could change the consensus. If you are a Bitcoiner run at least one Bitcoin full node to contribute to secure the network.
