The whole world knew the world was round before Columbus left. Columbus thought he could make it because he was convinced everyone else was wrong about the math and it was much smaller than they thought. The king thought why not gamble 3 boats of losers on the chance. If they die they die, if they make it I get the rewards. Smart king, but a little heartless. Columbus was out of supplies when he landed. Only luck that an unknown continent existed kept them from starving in the middle of the ocean. On top of that, the Vikings had beat Columbus by almost 500 years but decided they would have to kill too many locals to establish a permanent colony. Biochar, gypsum, and compost spread on the vegetable garden beds. Seeded with microclover and straw spread to help keep the seeds wet. Going to experiment with leaving the clover year round next season. Clearing just enough area for each plant when we plant them.
