#Bitchat sounds like #Reticulum but with less range. Am I missing something here?

I see a lot of rappers doing movies, TV shows, and commercials for things like car repair insurance. Whatever happened to "don't sell out"? Or was "don't sell out" just a ploy to build a brand, make money, get famous enough in order to then actually sell out? #streetcred is a scam.

My wife and I started watching "The Musketeers" - pretty entertaining. Reminds us of a mix of "Hell on Wheels", "Vikings", and "Black Sails". In all cases, the women have no real official power (except for Vikings maybe), and yet they have a ton of undercover, behind the scenes power and they wield it!

Went to a firefighter memorial/museum yesterday. This piece of steel from the 9/11 wreckage was there. Kind of moving to see an actual piece of the towers. I've got to go to the NYC memorial one day. Last time I was there, a few years after 2001, it was just a hole in the ground, a construction site. image

Strangely, I woke up thinking about sleep. Particularly, I thought of how people often say, "I don't sleep much, but I lie in bed and rest." Then I thought to myself: Lying in bed, resting, and feeling it's the same as actually sleeping is like lying on the couch, thinking of exercising, and feeling it's the same as actually exercising. Get your sleep, people. And, ironically, exercising helps with sleep.

I'm sure I'm not the first to do it, but it was a first for me. I grilled a stalk of rhubarb today to see what it would taste like. Surprisingly, it wasn't stringy at all and was actually rather mushy. Clearly the heart breaks down the fingers. The taste was hard to describe, but a mix of smoky and tangy (which makes total sense). image

Saw this today on the roof of one of those tiny libraries. I guess it's a fungi or possibly a slime mold. Slime molds are cool. image #nature

I'm reading a book right now that just seems like a movie, or would be a good one to watch. I kind of picture the movie in my mind as I read. But, I'm pretty sure there is no movie. With AI, we can now input text and get some amazing stuff. How long 'til anybody and everybody can simply copy-paste in the text of a book and generate a movie version? At the pace things are going, two years? #AI

The other day, my wife and I had to go to the "big city." I was sitting with a morning coffee waiting as she got ready and I had a few minutes. Phone-scrolling, I saw this web app: https://pocket-vibe.koyeb.app/ and figured, "I'll try that." With no idea what app to make, I pondered, looking at my phone. One thing that I like is the auto-generated user avatars that a lot of front ends and clients use in case the user hasn't uploaded their own image or if the network is slow. So, I figured I'd make that - I prompted pocket-vibe to make that app to generate an 8bit avatar based on a username type of input. Within five minutes, I had a working version. I did a handful of versions to get it to where I liked it, but it was really, really easy. It's rather amazing to me that we're now in a time where we can "code" out a working app in literally less than five minutes. This little app that I came up with is really no different than a QR code generator, except that it's colorful, more fun, and doesn't do any QR code scanning, I think. What does your username look like? Enter it at this 8bit avatar app to find out: https://pocket-vibe.koyeb.app/site/pv_b5393c85 Example, my "crrdlx" username: image Example, my npub, which I like because it looks like a dog: image

It's true that 99+% of vibe-coded apps are, and will continual to be ridiculous, useless, and forgotten. But, it's not 100%. That's the beauty of a free and open market (i.e., viewers). It automatically weeds out the pointless and retains what has value.

Yesterday my wife and I drove two hours to go to an ebike shop where she bought a bike a few years ago. The bike has been good, for the most part, but the battery and electronic issues have been a headache. 1. The battery went kaput about 2 years ago. We take it back, it was still under warranty so they replaced it. Okay. 2. Happens a second time. It was a circuitry issue that "happens sometimes, rarely, but sometimes." After fussing, they replace it. 3. My wife had a total tune-up. On the first ride, and error code emerges, the bike goes dead. Yesterday, back once again. They swear the battery is okay (I have my doubts) but $100 for them to check the codes and such. Ridiculous! We did get a pretty late afternoon at a park on the way home, so all is good. image
