Yesterday my wife and I drove two hours to go to an ebike shop where she bought a bike a few years ago. The bike has been good, for the most part, but the battery and electronic issues have been a headache. 1. The battery went kaput about 2 years ago. We take it back, it was still under warranty so they replaced it. Okay. 2. Happens a second time. It was a circuitry issue that "happens sometimes, rarely, but sometimes." After fussing, they replace it. 3. My wife had a total tune-up. On the first ride, and error code emerges, the bike goes dead. Yesterday, back once again. They swear the battery is okay (I have my doubts) but $100 for them to check the codes and such. Ridiculous! We did get a pretty late afternoon at a park on the way home, so all is good.

Saw two white deer bucks this evening. That's a first. There was also a third tan buck who came out if the brush a moment later. #nature

I know many people here are familiar with Neal Stephenson, the sci-fi writer. I know this because his name and books have popped up often here, which is why I started reading "Snow Crash" recently. I typically, like never, read sci-fi but I'm enjoying the book. For anyone UNfamiliar with his work, the thing that amazes me most in that this book came out in 1992. He was so far ahead and correct on so many things: . the "metaverse" (evidently he's credited with coining the term, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaverse) . the idea of people "living" there as avatars . the items in the metaverse which are essentially NFTs . digital money, some people actually theorized he's Satoshi Nakamoto:

. and there are more little things I can't recall right now Here in 2025 it's easy to gloss over these things as ho-hum everyday, but then I recall, "This was 1992 when it was written, there was no world wide web then for regular people to do stuff." Impressive foresight.

For your daily mushroom report: Two days ago, I mowed the lawn and there were zero mushrooms. Yesterday, I was surprised to see some very healthy and mature looking mushrooms that had appeared in less than 24 hours. My intention was to get rid of them as they were a big white eyesore in the middle of a green lawn. But, my curiosity took over. "How big will they get?" I wondered. Today, I put out a tape measure: over 5 inches across for the bunch, 3.25 inches across for the largest one. If only I could put out a time lapse camera I could literally watch them mushroom as they grow.

I've got to remember to copy the things I write BEFORE I actually "post" them. Far too often, I actually think about what I want to write, type it out (stupid slowly on mobile), then hit "send", but somehow I mess it up and it just goes into etherspace. Then, I'm too frustrated and don't want to do it all over so it was all for naught. The only result is time wasted and exasperation.

My wife had to check on some prescriptions at the Wal-Mart pharmacy, they're always incorrect, she always has to get things straight. So, I stood guard over the shopping cart for a few minutes. People-watching in Wal-Mart can be a dangerous thing. But, I watched the workers whose job is to go around and fill online orders. They move hypnotically with their cart, grab the item, scan it, put it in a bag and place it in the box container, then move on. They move so robotically, I couldn't help but wonder at how inefficient it is: they literally pull things off the retail shelf (and get in the way in the aisle of real shoppers). A robot in a warehouse could do this so much more efficiently. I think some places have this going on already, but it's coming. And those Wal-Mart people-robots will be doing something else (and the aisles will be clearer).

I've started reading "Snow Crash", never read any Neal Stephenson books before. I looked him up. Evidently he's now involved with "Lamina1", some metaverse blockchain thing. Anyone familiar with this project?

Not sure why, but my local pastor gets sick a lot with head colds and such. I suppose that's an occupational hazard of "pressing the flesh" as they say.

Just realized in this photo I took that the mushrooms are giving shade to Creeping Charlie - that cursed weed. That's aiding and abetting. The mushrooms (and weed) must go.

Overnight mushrooms appeared (1st photo). The 'shroom photo was taken in almost exactly the same place as the 2nd photo, from yesterday, after mowing the grass. The largest mushroom head is about 2 inches diameter. Amazing, and a little scary, how fast they can appear.

It's a little weird, but I like to bake pies. I think I got here due to the fact that I like to eat pie. My favorite growing up was pumpkin pie, but then I got two new favorites as an adult. Chess and rhubarb. Chess pie is just so rich, plus I love the name. The story is that it's "just pie" or "jes' pie" which sounds like "chess pie" when spoken with a Southern US accent. It's the pie you make with "just" the things you have in the kitchen: eggs, corn meal, sugar, and a little vinegar. Might now sound good, but it's good! And rhubarb - it's the summer and I've got some rhubarb ready for plucking. That's what got me thinking pie.

I just made about 4 images using ChatGPT free plan then hit image generation limit. It said I have to wait 720 hours now. I glanced over that limit notification, okay, fine. Wait, 720 hours? That's 30 days! I'm still thankful and I get it, they're paying for everything. Was just surprised.
